Thread: Decent Priced Notebook w/ SSD?

Hello everyone,



I am in the market for a new laptop and would love to purchase one with a super speedy SSD. The only problem is, most PC manufacturers make you pay an extra $500 to put in a solid state drive with a capacity of around 256GB. The price of SSD's are dropping, but that is only if you are in the market of just purchasing an SSD by itself. The drop in price has yet to hit the pre built notebooks that you would purchase from a manufacturer.

Anyone know of a laptop that comes with an SSD that doesn't cost a crazy amount?

Also, would it be a bad idea to purchase a notebook with a regular magnetic hard drive and then just swap in an SSD? Or would there most likely be compatibility issues?

I don't see why you couldn't swap out one with a mechanical HDD. I just got a SDD a few days ago, all you need to do is configure windows so its optimized for it.

There is an application called SSD Tweaker and plenty of guides like this one - Guide * Windows 7 Ultimate Tweaks & Utilities *

Also just got a notebook for my mom recently, picked up an Acer Aspire One D255 for $255 bucks on amazon.com. It appears to be the lightest and thinest notebook right now that is reasonably cheap.
