    Default Calling all "techy" Mac Users!

    I understand this is a torrent site but usually torrents and computers go hand in hand with the people that use them(expertise I mean).... Well My problem for today is that I have a mac ibook g4(laptop) which suxs but I would like to give it new life by installing ubuntu 8.10 server on it. Well I got it all downloaded and burned onto a cd and then I popped it in the drive and chose to restart my laptop and hold down "c" once the screen goes black and then for like 30 seconds..... Well nothing happened and then OSX booted up and no sign of ubuntu attempting to boot.....(F%^k) I am using the i386 version of ubuntu server so please help me out with what I am doing wropng... Oh ya and I am planning to turn this laptop into my own little linux torrent server so let me know what you think of that!

    There should be a Mac sub-thread for Hardware/Software issues - This however may be more ubuntu.
    What exact model do you have? I have heard of some G4s/G5s superdrive (or ide bus depending on opinion) not supported on some linux distros. So have you tried another, or your copy on another Mac to see if it loads there?

    If you're trying to install a i386 version on a G4 it won't work, since G4s use the PowerPC CPU architecture, not i386.

    Here is a link I found for Ubuntu for PowerPC. That should work.
