How often do you all defragment? On my other hard drives, I do it about twice a month but I've been putting this hard drive off lol. Dead God, I've put this off too long.

I usually have to defrag about once a week. After I get everything set up on an external hard drive, I expect that to drop substantially.
Once or twice a year at most - the system says if it thinks defrag is needed - and Ive been known to go a year and STILL it says it wasnt required. Also, if you use MS defrag you need minimum 15% freespace - thats a lot of unused disc space on my system with almost 8TB in total. Especially considerring that to hold at least 15% - most volumes will have appreciably more.
In fact if I do want to degrag I 1st make space available by moving large data folders to other volume(s) - to this purpose I ensure that every volume (even my system volume) has at least 1 non-system-critical folder (e.g. music) that can be temporarilly taken offline. This way I only need to ensure one volume has enough free space.
Move the folder, defrag, put it back. And of course when it goes back it goes back sequentially so it is automatically in a defragged state. Dont forget to name the folder in such a way you know which volume
Defragmenting was never really important for me. I can't remember ever doing it because it really doesn't make that much of a difference
I use a defragment software once per month for my system disk and once per four-five months for my data disks.I guess now that more and more users start to use SSD for their system disk the defragmet process isn't valid any more for them.
It really depends what you are using your hard drive for, how full your hard drive is, but the easiest thing is to schedule a monthly defrag, which should keep you in good shape. Don't expect a big performance jump after defraging though. It will make a difference, but not a huge one.
I have the defragger run automatically on the background daily. As it's done frequently it's finished quickly.
I'd suggest using MyDefrag v4.3.1 as it is free, stable, very efficient and easy to schedule. Much much better than the built-in defragger.
There is no standard time between each disc defragment.
I may not defragment my drive for a month and then do it 2-3 times a week.
I you dl many files and deleting them after using them(this is what I do with movies) you would need to defragment more often!
My main drive is an SSD and that doesn't require defrag. My other drives are set to auto defrag when the computer is idle via Perfect Disk.
