    Default new intro question

It's basically an add-on to the 4. question ("How long have you been in the torrent world?"), making it a two-parter. I would like to suggest we add a more purposeful question to it, like "How long have you been in private trackers?".

Why? Well, because the first question only tells us whether or not the user can open a torrent client and start the download, but the second question would tell us that users approximate level of understanding things. Things like scene, uploading rules, holding ratio, maybe even cross-seeding. I know it's just a guessing game at that point but...To me, 1 year in the private world means more than 5 years in torrent world.

I myself have been in the private world just about over a year now. Taking from my rapid development in understanding the secrets and customs of torrenting, i think that NEW question has a punch to it.

Ever since the knights quest, i have been in Yahoo Answers a lot, answering the same, simple questions over and over again. But what disturbs me, is that some of these "old-timers" at torrenting who are sharing their knowledge (or the lack of it) beside me, have absolutely no clue whatsoever about the real deal. Public trackers and private trackers are still worlds apart !

Also, not to scare away the new people who are filling the intro as their first move to the private world, a little encouragement about that question has to be done. Just a little add-on to the intro guide, telling that the purpose of that question is to specify the persons experience, not to look for the "old-dogs" or pick on the new kids on the block.

Considering the fact that a lot of midgets run like maniacs towards the giveaway sections (without having a meaningful history here, at t-i, to back up his/her acknowledgements), i think THAT simple question would give that extra confidence to the inviter.

What you guys think about the idea (not about my english skills)?

What's wrong with your English skills, sounds just like it is your first language! :)

If the person is not part of any private trackers (as many of your new members are) they have 0 experience. Somebody could also answer they've been part of private trackers for 4 years, but it is really just demonoid and where you don't even need to keep a ratio or worry about anything. However, if demonoid is their only tracker, it will be listed in their intro so you would know.

I think that the idea doesn't add much overhead to the intro process, so it would be easy to implement. It would be an interesting extra piece of information to look at when giving out your invites. But I still think if you are giving away a prized invite you can/should ask for a ratio proof showing their profile or even profile links to their oldest tracker and check up on them first.

Wanted to add that I also noticed this on Yahoo Answers! When somebody asks what a safe and virus free site to get content from, everybody is recommending The Pirate Bay or other sites like Kick Ass Torrents!

Yet, apparently 25% to 30% of content on these sites is fake:
25% of files downloaded from The Pirate Bay are fakes

I agree that people who have 5 years experience with torrents may not have a clue about private trackers!

I still think being a Demonoid member counts to your experience. Because when you join, you WILL notice that weird ratio thing and start to look for it's meaning (though we all know demonoid is ratio free, the noobs don't). Also, demonoid has a forum, which you at some point in your "4 year membership" time will enter. And we all know how much information there is in forums. right?

    I agree with your suggestion.
For Private Trackers you have to know how to keep a real ratio (cross-seeding, seedbox), follow and read their rules (IP, banned clients, req seeding time etc) and have an intermediate knowledge on torrents. As for public trackers, people just leech, hit & run and show no respect for the tracker.

well you must remember that it is not required that you have any trackers private or public to join TI so your suggestion is misleading as anyone can join

i know t-i accepts even the most inexperienced people, that's why i also mentioned that the tutorial/guide should have a notice, that being a member of private trackers for years doesn't give you any advantages, it just "remotely" describes your torrenting skills.

Also, not to scare away the new people who are filling the intro as their first move to the private world, a little encouragement about that question has to be done. Just a little add-on to the intro guide, telling that the purpose of that question is to specify the persons experience, not to look for the "old-dogs" or pick on the new kids on the block.
@dosage. please translate that quote. you have the ability to make things easily understandable, i don't.

Although I see no problem in adding a little more specification to the question, the problem I foresee is that people will be tempted to lie about their experience in the private tracker world as they will view it as important to have wealth of experience to gain entry here, which as SB has already pointed out is of no consequence.

With regards to the intro guide - if you are referring to the one in the worker lounge, it already states that the question is merely to gauge experience, it already implies that experience is not something that should be used to accept/deny an intro (bearing in mind that only the Lead Intro Mods (myself & Jameo) and Senior Staff can deny an intro which is not classed as spam. Intro Mods are permitted to deny spam intros')

she deals swift justice to whoever dare oppose her.
Possessing hidden power of untold measure,
she watches all who scurry beneath her gaze.
One may try to imitate her, but none will succeed,
for inclined to both limitless kindness and vengeance, She is at once,

That will scare people. I'm guessing that 80 % long time BT users lie to any question, because ultimately it is about privacy. An internet is a dangerious place. When I red the first posts here, I was full of suspicion. It looked to good. And I'm still paranoid! Why a place as dark as this would ask you to "tell about your self". This kind of a thoughts pattern is very real for most of the users I think. About a new users. No need to overdo the intro if you (them) have to lie more.

I see no problem with this. I can always add a note under the question explaining that minimal experience will not negate their intro, and that we are simply hoping to learn more about the user.
