Thread: Moderators

Hey,

I have recently become concerned about the lack of mods in this community. I have found myself looking at a chopping block with 7 threads open at one time, and many people carelessly misfollowing the rules in different ways. I really think that having only 3 mods for such a large community is hurting us, and is in no way making us better. I am still opposed to the recent demotion of two of our most active moderators, and maybe because of that, this has started to happen. Here's an example:

I usually don't speak up on something unless I truly believe it is important, and in this case, I do. We really need to step it up in moderation, and this may require promoting a user or two to do the job.

I very much agree. The current mods do a good job - but for the size, activity, and maintenance required of this community, we certainly do not have enough moderators. When I first joined, there was rarely a moment that there was not an active moderator on the board, and it is not the case now.

I thought JustJenna and Valentius did a wonderful job, and from what I understand, they weren't demoted for doing the job improperly (though I don't really know the story). But whether or not they are re-added to the moderating team, we absolutely need a few more people.

I'm concerned about the lack of mods in iRC as well. There is a great job being done but everyone who is mod is basically in the same time zone and when I'm on I barely see anyone on, or see someone for only a few seconds. So plus one to you, gigaleech. And I mean that as a member, not just as my...well, you know.

I agree. Man, if only we had 2 people with experience that we could pick!! Theres got to be someone applicable.

yeah, i agree rosey, we need someone here that's on the same time zone as nuzza to moderate and be in the irc..

I think more mods are needed but I disagree with mentioning these folks by name. I'm not privy to the reasons they were demoted (nor do I wish to know)... but I can't help but think that if I were in their positions such a poll would make me uncomfortable. I trust you obtained their permission before saying their names?

But you didn't answer my question - did you or did you not obtain their permission prior to using their names in your poll? That's the crux of the matter in my mind.
