Thread: Suggestion about Introductions and Registration names.

I've noticed that there's zero tolerance with people having the same name here as they have on a tracker, which I understand completely. What I don't understand is this:

Most people use the same registration info for everything, so it's not unlikely that someone were to register here with the name they use at a tracker, but if they do, they usually wont even find out that it was against the rules until halfway through the introduction process.

That makes it sound like the only reason most people got in is because they lucked out and just happened to use a different name prior to starting their application than they usually use as a habit for everything.

I know for me personally I didn't know before starting my intro that it was against the rules, but when I saw that it was I felt like I must be the luckiest person alive that I just happened to pick a different name this ONE time signing up for something.

I suggest that people be allowed to change their name while they're still in the "starting..." rank, or at the very least have something on the registration page in bright red letters saying "DO NOT REGISTER USING A NAME THAT YOU USE AT ANY OF YOUR TORRENT TRACKER WEBSITES" so that they have no excuse.

no its totally different idea..if what i am suggesting cant be done
your suggestion might be good.but when someone registers somewhere must read the rules.so its a mod's discretion how strict they will be about this.
many times admins have changed the usernames 1 year now..and i believe now they changed their minds and they want to ban those who dont read the rules.

Don't you have to register to the actual forum though before you can even fill out the T-I application?

You can't just post that as a guest or anonymous user, can you?

And the problem with just having the application not go through if you select the wrong button is someone that doesn't speak english well or doesn't really understand will just select the other one, whether or not it's the truth.

I think most of the reasons people are getting banned for this stem from confusion and small mistakes, none of it is malicious or intentional.

What about when you click the "register" button it takes you to the master stickey first, tick box for understanding, then proceed to fill out details. No excuses then.

It just feels unfair the way people are being banned for making a mistake like that, but if they have been redirected to the rules BEFORE they even register for the site, and registration is a binding agreement of having read the rules, then they're just fucked.

Heh.. Guys (and gals) - the idea isn't to prevent people from using the same nickname they already use somewhere, but on the trackers they get invite to FROM HERE.

To make sure you understand: let's say Adenai is my nick on TL (it's not, I'm not even there, but let's just say) and I come here registering with the same nick. Any problems? NO. The problem would be - once I got in here as Adenai - when I received an invite to, let's say, Waffles and used Adenai as my nickname there. That's against the rules (you learn about during your intro and later on).

N/P and nothing to solve then.
