The point was if more give a like it would result in rep. I would like to see 5xlikes=1rep (a 5:1 ratio), and the like button to appear beside the rep, as I like keeping things neat:) When it comes to the retrospectivety, I think this new function would alter the way people use it so a fresh start is more fair in my opinion :)

Nice idea Zack. I, like you think 1:1 is a little generous. Maybe 1:2 or 1:3. 1:10 seems a little off balance to me. If you get a like, you've typically earned it with what you have said. My experience has been that rep is the same way. I have run about 1 rep posting (not points) for every 2 likes. So, there's my take.
I don't really like the idea, but the likes are currently useless, and many new members give likes instead of rep for posts that deserve rep. Clearly, something has to be done.

I don't think 1:1 is a good idea, 1:10 as a minimum tbh... i'd even settle for 1:25 which would be great :)
Likes are easy to get... if your an active member as opposed to Rep which really does need to be earned.
I agree that so many new members gives likes where rep is deserved, especially when you are answering questions for them.
But I wouldn't say likes are 'useless' entirely. There are times when I can like a post but don't really think it is rep worthy.

more than likely it will be a 1-1 ratio just like the thank hack that was used in the forum prior to going to the like hack. @Forma if you want rep get active on the forum make a big splash and get noticed staying in the shadows will not earn you rep. rep is earn by making yourself known via posts or outstanding actions on the forum

I think that if it's 1 like = 1 rep, the rep requirements for the levels should be increased by at least 50%. Getting likes should not be the main source of rep, it should be more like an addition.
