Default Ways to Lessen the Spam Bots!

    Hello T-I,

I have some suggestions to make the T-I bots free :P

1st. You Can Change the Security Question to any other Question.
2nd. You can add the Captcha system, so that BOT will be less by that Method.
3rd. You Can add the image Verification system. it will also Lead to less the BOTs al Huge amount.

Most recommended Point is 2nd Point.

+1 to all that Enon posted and i would like to add this:
    - Only reped members can post. It will be significant decrease the amount of spam and it will also increase the number of reped members. There is a lot (More than 50% of non reped members) which means less invites and less activity on the site. The introduction should be required if you like to post on the forum

Yeah, one of our mods have volunteered to do this earlier this morning. Not too sure what's the progress, but I think he's testing it out on a sandbox.

This is a really good suggestion, probably one of the best ones in the near past, but I would still like to add a few things.

If it gets implemented I hope that the captcha system is only necessary during registration or while posting the intro and not each time you log in.
Especially the captacha system from Google is extremely hard to encrypt, at least for me and it would be really complicate and annoy the everyday usage of this forum.
Most auto password fill in plugins also don't work with captacha systems, because they save it the first time you log in and you can't add the new captcha, which means you still have to copy paste the password if you are used to such apps.

Users without approved application sometimes also make valuable posts, an example for this would be the thread about the open signup from CrickeyMate, where one of the site ops registered an account, made a quick informative post and left. I don't think he would have done it if only approved members could post. Some non approved members already start valid posts before they even boother to submit one (LoTL would be another good example) but sadly the majority doesn't.

To better prevent spambots I think it would either be necessary to not allow 0% members make posts or implement a captacha system for each login.
I totally agree that the registration needs to be more secure as well.

If you need help feel free to PM me, but keep in mind that asking for an invite is not considered help.

Well Google's captacha is really needed for Each Login and Registration form! but it will be annoying if the captacha will be for each posting.. (Very-Very disappointing).. its good idea that 0% Progress Members Can't Post but they can read the forum as well as guest also as its an Public Forum.. Just let the Member Post the Intro by an Application Form as let the 55% and above members rep them and let the user to Enjoy the Community :)

i just recently read a article regrading captacha. People at some college devolped a software to crack captacha. It was 50% correct.

I just hope there will be a better type of captacha soon.

Default No captchas, image codes or similar obstacles, please.

    Please ...

... have mercy: no more captchas, image codes or similar hassles, because there are already way too many of them everywhere. Simply require people to be fully accepted members ("repped" in with 10%) before they can post. If you feel you have to harass people with image codes and captchas, pleeeaaase do so only for the first ten posts of new 10% members, to separate the wheat from the chaff. There are a couple spam posts every now and then, but by far not enough to justify forcing all members to run through the obstacle course of captchas all the time.

If deleting the few spam posts manually is too much work for moderators, add a "Spam" button to the interface, similar to the "Like"/"Thanks" button. Every post that gets flagged with ten "Spam" flags could then be deleted automatically.

There will not any use of Spam button or something like that and this is the feature in Invision Power Board, and there will be no use of it because there is already an report system.. The post we report directly notify Staff in their own Secret Area and they look into it and Respond to that Reported post as soon as possible..

Captchas can be bypassed. This comes from experience managing a forum.

During registration, putting a custom question like "35 PLUS 30 =" in addition to a captcha is the best way to combat spam bots.
