Default Ban repeat offenders in the chopping block

More and more users seem to be getting put on the chopping block for duping invites sometimes to multiple trackers, getting invites "for friends" (which in my mind is usually BS) and just come out with the excuse they didn't know (usually more BS IMO). They get a temp ban and an infraction.

Fair enough, the staff decide the rules, personally I think they just endanger good users here on TI, but there has to be some leniency to educate the stoopid.

I do however see on occasion repeat offenders and they just get a longer ban etc, surely one time on the chopping block is enough? They obviously don't care about their inviters, the site or anyone but themselves and their ability to scam more free invites to sell and trade. I used to think this was quite a safe place to give out invites, but as I accumulated more and more good trackers from real life friends and considered new giveaways I saw more and more users banned from here and rethought that idea.
I now feel it's quite unsafe with repeat offenders being allowed more rope to hang themselves.... and me.

Not trying to flame or blame, just stating an opinion. I enjoy taking part in the site to the level I do, just not giving out invites.

I appreciate your good intentions with this suggestion. To me though, this seems like a fruitless path to go down. Every CB case will be different and the staff have to take individual circumstances into account. Will every staff member arrive at the identical decision? Will every outcome satisfy everyone? Of course not. But I'd say that staff have been doing a commendable job of trying to keep a balance.

It's a thankless task. And I can't see real merit in trying to second guess or sway policy. You do what you can to install good people and then let them use their best judgement.

All staff have the ability to put notes on someones profile, and they do for everything of relevance. If someone is found guilty but not banned on CB, there will be a usernote that is taken into consideration. And we take repeated offenders very seriously, most often they are banned, but as copper said, every case is different. If you are suggesting staff to be generally more strict, I dont think you will get anywhere.

PM asking for invites on your own risk. If your PM is incredibly stupid, it WILL be posted in the mocking block.
Thank you to TI staff for five wonderful months!

Like copper said it's depends of the case some of them get a liftime ban at the first CB post. And yes i would like to say that i see many "good" people that i thought they are honest and that they folow the rules banned. Just can't belive that a user that are here for a year have loads of iGivers and good reputation banned. It's really sad and yes we are human we make mistakes some of users make them intentionally some of them not. You can't know for sure. I think that staff is doing pretty good job on keeping the bad users out as you can see many banned users. Still some of them will stay as it's hard to found all of them. About giveaways always you decide the rules and who you will invite and it's all depend of you if you will invite bad users of good users. Higher the giveaway requirements are less chance that you will invite a bad users. You can look at this iGivers/posts/topic/introduction history to get a full picture about the user you are going to invite. And yeah we all risk our accounts when we use T-I as trackers don't like us much. The rules that are here are great users just need to follow them and all will be happy...

I have to agree with copper (as per usual). What can I say, the man (I'm assuming lol) is very insightful. Each situation is different. We do our best to track user-notes and make sure that serious offenders are dealt with accordingly. One blanket rule may not be (and usually is not) suitable for all situations. Dupe accounts to me are a VERY serious offense, however, there may be some extreme circumstances where it is a mistake, or someone was misinformed. Now, I can clearly see both sides of this argument, but I personally feel that it is best to "let sleeping dogs lie" as they say. Those who are a serious threat will be dealt with accordingly, and those users who commit minor infractions will be handled in a different manner. What it comes down to is: after the evidence is provided and the "who, what, where, when, why, and how" have been answered, a resolution will come forth, and it will be in everyone's best interest :)

It is rare that we get repeat offenders on the Chopping Block (CB), generally speaking once on the block is enough for most, as they learn their lesson/s the first time round. However that being said there have been cases where someone has been put on the block for what people would perceive is the same offence, but once all the evidence has been presented it actually transpires its not - which is what happened recently and I suspect your reasoning behind this thread.

Each CB thread is done on an individual basis, the evidence is collected and the accused's history on T-I examined. Depending on any mitigating circumstances, the "punishment" is then decided - on an individual basis. We can not have a blanket punishment set as not every incident warrants an automatic ban, think of it as a court room - everything has to be considered.

Whilst I understand your fears about invite giving, you must understand that they are YOUR invites and therefore YOU are responsible for them and the people you give them to. IF you feel that someone is not worthy of being invited then don't invite them, simple as that. But that being said, just because someone has been up on the chopping block does not automatically make them a master criminal, nor does it make them a trader or a seller - believe me, when I say there have been people here that have risen through the ranks of T-I and have never set foot on the CB, and yet they have been the ones who have been the traders and the sellers.

Just a little something to think about - If we were to issue blanket punishments, that were to be given regardless of any excuses, you would be sat with a perm infraction on your record just for a name change ;)

Banning repeat offenders is a good suggestion but as others have already pointed out most chopping block incidences are handled on a case by case basis. I'm quite sure that many things are considered when deciding punishment for first time and repeat offenders and there's no doubt in my mind that the supermods have heard every excuse imaginable and know how to be fair.

On the flip side, I take pride in being a member of a site like this one that welcomes unexperienced users and gives them opportunities to gain access to trackers that normally would be difficult to obtain. What happens with new users is they browse the site and see all that T-I has to offer then rush into area 51 with no regard for our rules because they never actually read them.

With that I must say that the backbone of T-I is made up of experienced users who actually know what they're talking about and made up of users who are cool enough to give their invites to total strangers for FREE. Unfortunately bad users take advantage of this and there's really no way around it unless you do your homework and dig deep into a new members forum activity. So ultimately it's your own responsibility to do what's necessary to get that warm and fuzzy feeling before giving your invites away. The chopping block is there as a preventative measure to weed out bad users before things get crazy but there's only so much T-I staff can do to keep everyone safe.

Sorry everybody, I've had a lot to drink already and I'm probably rambling and ain't making any sense but my point is treasure your invites and don't feel pressured to give them away. There's a lot of good users here and you can tell them apart by looking at what they're posting and where all their post are.
