When you follow a web link to another site, the destination site can normally tell what site you came from if they are paying attention. This is due to something called the http referrer field. Some trackers take note of this and there have been at least a few people reporting bans in the T-I forums because their tracker saw that an invitee was coming from T-I.
Anonymous redirects have become very common to strip the http field that links to the preceeding webpage. A lot of trackers use them when redirecting to outside sites such as IMDB. And some forums will prefix any external url with an anonymous redirect as well. While it's true that some one could simply copy and paste a link into a new browser tab or window, then tendency of most is to simply click on a link of interest.
It would seem logical that T-I might do the same and prefix external links with an anonymous redirect.
e.g. if a member posts
Code:http://www.imdb.com then that should transmogrify to something like http://anonym.to?http://www.imdb.com or the equivalent .php functionality
