I realize the colors on the font for your name are different for the avatar vs. banner. the color can be changed on either to match the other (though I'm really liking the black with white stroke on the banner). anyway, i was going for a definite "widescreen" theatrical look with the banner, and the detail & size of the image limited it to a certain amount resizing---down to 340x110, like you have now, would have suffered from a significant loss of detail.

while the work could be considered semi-tedious, it only took me 30-45 mins to whip these up. so... if you have any ideas about what to do or how to improve on them (i.e. something artsy with an effect on the background or special filtration), please let me know! i have a degree in the graphic arts world, and work in a related field (desktop publishing/digital pre-press), which means I'm less of an idea man... and much more suited to implementation. that being said, i like what i put down so far... i hope you approve. ;)



edit: added some alternates on the font (white) for the banner---the one with black font, and the ones that say PROCESSED, all have gradient layer blended in and curve adjustments made. the others did not go through with this processing, by accident, but rather than toss them aside, i figured you could decide if you preferred them.

Hi! I like it but could use some changes. I don't really like the font too much. If you look at the post above yours, I really like the banner with the name on it. Also, can you make the signature banner the same size as my current one? These are way too big. And one last thing...I would love to see some cool effect done. Here is someone's avatar from another site just to get your mind working :) Thank you!

well... like i said, for me to put the banners i have done in the size of your current banner (340x110), it would be just too small. You wouldn't be able to see any detail of the ships or capt. sparrow, etc. (especially the work i did to remove out all that text over the boats). the other alternative is to crop it, and when you do that, you basically get the same avatar as the one Reiho already did---so you lose the entirety of the scene that is meant to be epic as a whole (which, in my mind, defeats the entire purpose of having that image to work with for a banner .. but i guess that is a matter of opinion).

as for the "cool effect" you showed, thats not really an effect per se, as it appears to be a digital painting/drawing. the only "effects" i could think of is the white inner border, the tone of the image or the appearance of a snow/rain/storm. from my perspective, its hard to get anything put together without some detailed instruction on what you're looking for (though at least i know what size you want everything ... although i have to ask, why so small---or perhaps more importantly, why was my banner TOO BIG?)

Hi dies_irae, I see where you are coming from. The more I look at it the more I like it :) Keep YOUR banner size the same and I like the very top signature banner from your last post with many versions of it. The only thing that I ask is to be creative and add some cool effects of YOUR choosing to the avatar pic and the signature banner. I'm not a digital artist so I have no idea what you can do with it. Just show me a few versions of it with some effects done to it. I'm looking forward to what you can come up with!

the work i do entails mostly of compiling---sometimes a mess of files into a cohesive whole---, with correction and some small graphic implementation (more technical than artistic) for the sole purpose of outputing for print in mind. so, i'm not an artist in any true sense.. and speaking for myself, personally, i'm not the super creative type either (which is why i work in pre-press as opposed to being a freelance digital artist or something). I don't know I'm up to do much more on this, and I'm sorry if I implied otherwise.. In fact, I don't even have any decent fonts or an up-to-date ps (or equivalent) for me to work w/ atm.

Anyway,, it looks as if there are other perfectly capable applicants here with your interests in mind. ;) Good luck with the quest

Sorry it took me a bit to reply. Have been tied up the last couple days. Below are a tweaked version of the av and a matching banner. The text is different on the banner, as I played a bit with incorporating the same text as the av, but in the time I had I didn't get it working quite right. It was coming out too overwhelming and standing out more than Johnny. So that's why they are different. In the end I went with a style that works into the water and tones of the image more.

I can try and get it working with the scroll text style when I have more time though if you like.

Wow, this is pretty damn awesome too. Can we use animated avatars on this site? The only thing that I ask if you can get rid of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" text and put my name.
