Default RSS feed that recognizes identical torrents from different sites

Wouldn't it be cool if you could have RSS feeds to different sites that somehow would download the first instance of the show it sees, and then be smart enough to download the torrent from another site if it was the same and seed it there?

i.e. TL and IPT have the same pretty much identical torrents, or BTN and BitMeTV, it would be cool if a RSS feed could see the same show come up on both sites, download whichever one comes up first, when it sees another identical torrent from a different RSS feed it waits until the first is done downloading and then seed that the other site.

Hmm... I hope I explained that well.

Haha, your right this is exactly what I wanted in my other thread. Really hope someone can do this because it would be incredibly useful.

It is not that hard to implement, but there are few interesting things:
    1. Torrents can be different (trackers, comments, info, filenames) but the files can be the same even with different filenames. It can be easily implemented by checking total filesize of the torrent contents.
    2. The problem causing from no. 1 is that this feed or whatever it will be should copy all the files with new names according to one particular release and then start seeding. It can cost you some resources :)
    3. If you developing more stupid version which is checking all the file sizes and filenames and if they match makes the decision that torrents are similar, then you the productivity will be smaller but implementation easier and etc.

    Nice idea, btw :)

Funny thing is that I develop software for a living, this kind of thing wouldn't be hard for me to do. I just have to find spare time, but I'm so busy (with T-I forum browsing and ratio building!) that I can't find any spare time.

You can do this if you set up multiple rss feeds and tell them to download the same tv shows or w.e. i do this and it allows me to cross seed ( as long as the filenames are identical).

jb123, if you are downloading both at the same time, won't the torrent software won't realize it is writing the same file (I think). I believe I've done this by accident and it didn't work so well.

I wonder if both torrent downloads wouldn't interfere with each other?

by the time the file comes up on a second site, the first one is done downloading, so I dont really have any problems.

I've never tried this myself, but I'm a little surprised. For example, if you use RSS, aren't the minimum pull intervals something like 10 minutes or more? I know that between TL and IPT, or BTN and BMTV TV shows would almost certainly show up in the same 10 minute block!

i have mine set for 1 minute. I havent had any problems. I mostly use irssi instead of rss, so intervals are not problems. Also, bmtv is a pain since the shows are unrared and sometimes the name is slightly changed.
