Default Build me a gaming rig ... Bit offtopic but whatever

Budget 1500 AUD which is around 1:1 with USD.

Hopefully can squeeze in a widescreen moniter as well but not too miffed if it can't be done.. Don't need speakers or mouse or keyboard.

Basically I am looking for parts suggestions from you guys ;D

And if your posting in here i'm assuming you are tech savvy.

The main thing is ... besides gaming capability is quietness.

When not playing a game I want it to be so quiet SOOO quiet.

I prefer intel over amd and nvidia over ati.

my first question would be, do you want to build the parts here in Australia or buy it from US? MSY pretty much the cheapest vendor i can find here, but it is still significant more expensive compare with tigerdirect and newsegg, the price difference can reach about 25% and even more with sales/rebate. Are you going to get an agency to buy it for you and ship it to you for a fee, and by the way, its only weeks away from xmas sales

For cases, the Antec 900 is always a great bet. It's what I have my components in, matter of fact.

The only problem you may run into is space; I cant' fit the fan on the side with the transparent plastic because the fan itself wedges against my video card, thereby not allowing me to shut it properly.

As for the preferring nvidia thing, I hear you. I own an older generation nvidia 9800gtx+ and I love it. However, for current pc building, you can buy better ATI cards for the same price, if not cheaper. You don't get the 3D gaming aspect, though.

    Hope this helps!

Making the computer quiet is going to be the hardest thing. You have to make sure all of your fans are either slow or temperature sensing. Get a big case, like the Antec 900, and put big, slow fans in it. Slow fans will be quieter, but if they are big they will move enough air to cool your computer. Get the biggest fans that will fit. You can get Antec TriCool fans and run them on a low speed setting. Then get a temperature-sensing CPU fan and a temperature-sensing PSU.

Yea, getting good case fans and a cpu fan will help, but since he is planning on this being a gaming computer, as long as its air powered, sound is going to be a problem. I made sure when I built my computer I researched and got the single best cfm per db of both case and cpu fans, but guess what, my computer still sounds like I'm using it to blow up an air matress. Why? Because the best GPUs have horrendous fans that will make you hate your life, and not too much you can do about it.

Of course there is one solution if you want a truely silent setup, but it's a little extreme, and that would be to use watercooling. This lets you replace both the fan units on the GPU and CPU, the two loudest components, I plan on making the switch myself very soon.

Plus as a gamer, you will likely want to squeeze as much performance out your components as possible, which means overclocking, however with air this leads to needing more cooling, so the more you try to move the bar up, the faster you will have to spin those fans to maintain the same temperature. With water you can just let it rip.
