Thread: Automatic vs Manual Gearbox

Automatic gearbox cars are very popular among Americans and Japanese people, while Europeans prefer manual gearbox cars.

I personally like cars with manual gearbox more. In these cars you have always the control of the situation and it's you who chooses how the car has to behave. It is a bit tricky at the beginning because of the clutch, and the Otto cars are a little more difficult than Diesel cars, however, once e have some practice, it becomes easy.

So you? What do you prefer?

Which one is best?

PS: I'm talking about totally automatic gearbox, not the ones like DSG from VW, SMG from BMW or PDK from Porsche.

i love to watch Amazing Race and when they hop into the cars, here in Europe, they like "WTF IS THIS STICK? WHY ARE THERE 3 PEDALS?" and then trying to crunch in the gears without the clutch. EPIC

automatics are for lazy people.

it all depends if you are driving a sports car like say a BMW or Porsche definitely stack, but if you are driving a luxury vehicle like a Lincoln TownCar or Cadillac Escalade you got to have an automatic

automatic's increase fuel consumption

automatics decrease engine performance due to higher gear ratios mostly and more power loss due to extra heavy mechanical bits for the older hidrovac system and new robotic systems alike.

automatics have shift delays and some systems *cough* japanese *cough* shake when the car is standing and the gearbox is set to Drive.

torque converters suck! im a manual guy all the way.

Its a though question. Automatic are more comfortable and this allows you to relax even more and make a ride much more pleasent experience.

What if i had to choose?

Well probably id take the manual gearbox...

1.Its cheaper to maintain
2. The consumption will go down

automatic is the best
