Thread: Why do californians put rims on ghetto cars?

Im living in San Diego, not by choice but one thing i noticed was people are stupid enough to put shiny big rims on ghetto ass cars like toyota tercels and those chevy travel vans with curtains in the windows. Why? What is the appeal with wasting money on rims when you pay more for the rims then you paid for the car? Sometimes I wonder what people down here are thinking...

It's a hip-hop culture thing. Often called donks, and comes from the word badonkadonk, a very round, attractive ghetto syle booty. They do this so it sits up high enough so as to be at the same eye level as the Playas with real juice ridin in their Escalades. With no money left over for the necessary suspension and brake upgrades, the lifespan of these atrocities is limited to a few drug runs or the first Police chase, whichever occurs first

Why do we want the best computers? Why do we want the shiniest phones? We fit into that same idea too, we spend money on our hobbies, I spend money always upgrading my PC or buying the best andriod phone, etc, they spend their money on making their cars look better, better as in better to them.. since most of us don't really like it, haha.

But to some degree, I do have to admit that it is a waste. Although they are enjoying it, I still think some people are slightly delusional when trying so hard and paying so much for their cars. But I'll never understand that.. I don't even like cars.

I dont think thats a good comparison. What they are doing is like putting a 480GTX gfx card in a pc with 256mb of RAM and a Celeron processor.

But yeah, it's definitely a hip-hop culture thing. The more urban areas in California all have these (parts of San Diego county, L.A., and parts of the Bay Area are notorious for these things).

I wouldn't say this is exclusive to Cali. All around the countries, these idiots put countless amounts of money into their car. Check engine light on? Throw on them dubs!

because californians are clearly influenced by what they see on tv! the south has the 20+" rims on their old P.O.S., limiting their turning radius! and personally, makes not only the car look like s--t but the person driving it as well! i see a lot of those where i'm at. it's clearly pointless! if you're going to make a car look good, do the interior (engine bay) only!
