Oh man, never in a million years would I think to see a thread like this.
I once owned a 1967 merc marauder back in 1999/2000. I bought it from an old guy for 1200 bucks. The body was all there and the interior was about 85% good. It needed paint and a new steering box.
While driving it to the shop to have the work done, the hood latch was loose (unknowingly to me) and when I hit about 45mph the hood flew up over the windshield. Didn't damage the glass but seriously kinked the rear corners of the hood. Body shop was able to hammer them back and true them up some, but it still left some gap at the seam.
The steering box was a real drama. Almost impossible to find the part where I lived at the time, and the cost was pretty damn expensive. All in all, when I had that thing done it was a joy to drive. Sadly, a lot of these bad boys were crashed up in derbies back in the day.
I love the era and numerous cars from then. Have owned a '71 monte carlo, 67 buick skylark, '68 impala, and the marauder. I will not rest in peace until I get a 1972 Caddy Eldo though....
