Lets get a discussion going about drugs! Which ones you do, if any, what should or shouldnt be legal, etc.
In my opinion, the current laws of the U.S. are obviously hypocritical. We have cigs, which DIRECTLY KILL over 400,000 people PER YEAR, yet they arent considered a threat. they cause more death than aids, alcohol, heroin, crack, cocain, meth, murders, fires, and car accidents, combined. Yet cannabis, which causes NO deaths, DOESNT kill brain cells, is NOT physically addictive and really does no harm to the body, accept maybe paralizing the cilia in your lungs, is scheduled equally dangerous as heroin. same thing with psychedelics.
It seems clear that a responsible drug user shouldnt be locked up, but lets ponder if anybody should. abusers of heroin, cocain and other addictive substances are not criminals, they are sick people. jailing them does no good. if anything will make a person want to shoot up, its being raped by bubba on a daily basis for months on end. they are going to get out wanting to shoot directly into the jugular. they need HELP, not punishment. the real dangers from drugs come from the black markets that control them.
I have smoked weed since 15, and can attest to its harmlessness. Not trying to brag, but I was out testing the valedictorian in AP chemistry class while smoking daily. it does seem that more less-motivated people smoke, but this doesnt mean that it makes you stupid. its correlation vs. causation. the people who try hard in school and whatnot are AFRAID that pot will make them stupid, so they dont use it, while the people who are already considered stupid have nothing to lose so they do it. Im sure the government will admit its faults and weed will be legal in this lifetime
I also use psychedelics, which i believe are going to save the world. the insights they give into human nature and consciousness are invaluable. I believe the hippies were onto something when they said that psys expand consciousness and that we are all one. the only real danger is having a bad trip, which is jsut you trying to hold on to your ego and previous, ill conceived patterns of thought. there are a number of very intelligent people (timothy leary) who went against the grain and fought for psychedelics. I will admit that certain people should avoid them, but they generally know that they dont wanna trip.
well thats about all i can muster. whats your opinion?
