    Default DRUGS

Lets get a discussion going about drugs! Which ones you do, if any, what should or shouldnt be legal, etc.

In my opinion, the current laws of the U.S. are obviously hypocritical. We have cigs, which DIRECTLY KILL over 400,000 people PER YEAR, yet they arent considered a threat. they cause more death than aids, alcohol, heroin, crack, cocain, meth, murders, fires, and car accidents, combined. Yet cannabis, which causes NO deaths, DOESNT kill brain cells, is NOT physically addictive and really does no harm to the body, accept maybe paralizing the cilia in your lungs, is scheduled equally dangerous as heroin. same thing with psychedelics.

It seems clear that a responsible drug user shouldnt be locked up, but lets ponder if anybody should. abusers of heroin, cocain and other addictive substances are not criminals, they are sick people. jailing them does no good. if anything will make a person want to shoot up, its being raped by bubba on a daily basis for months on end. they are going to get out wanting to shoot directly into the jugular. they need HELP, not punishment. the real dangers from drugs come from the black markets that control them.

I have smoked weed since 15, and can attest to its harmlessness. Not trying to brag, but I was out testing the valedictorian in AP chemistry class while smoking daily. it does seem that more less-motivated people smoke, but this doesnt mean that it makes you stupid. its correlation vs. causation. the people who try hard in school and whatnot are AFRAID that pot will make them stupid, so they dont use it, while the people who are already considered stupid have nothing to lose so they do it. Im sure the government will admit its faults and weed will be legal in this lifetime

I also use psychedelics, which i believe are going to save the world. the insights they give into human nature and consciousness are invaluable. I believe the hippies were onto something when they said that psys expand consciousness and that we are all one. the only real danger is having a bad trip, which is jsut you trying to hold on to your ego and previous, ill conceived patterns of thought. there are a number of very intelligent people (timothy leary) who went against the grain and fought for psychedelics. I will admit that certain people should avoid them, but they generally know that they dont wanna trip.

well thats about all i can muster. whats your opinion?

first i didn't take any kind of drugs and i consider cigs as drugs but alot but i think they only ban drugs like heroin because it affect to lose mind and didn't know what to do and of course i believe in that they are sick people not criminals but we must try to help them and learn from childhood the side effects and how to save our health because it's very valuable and it's the only thing will be with us when we go old

Spoon... you are spot on target, especially naturally occurring psychedelics. The question people should be asking is "why doesn't the government want me explore my own consciousness"? Yet they provide poisons in copious quantities, such as alcohol, nicotine, fluoride and chlorine for example. Just remember, the Nazis gave the Jews Fluoride... and nicotine is still used as an insecticide... if you have heard of alcohol poisoning you should know... yet have you heard of Marijuana poisoning, that's right... nope.
Use your critical thinking, it's your most important tool in this ever-increasing state of big brother.
Just my two cents... and yes, if you still have the right to bear arms, you'd best exercise that, it's your best form of preventing it from being taken away, and history shows us exactly what happens next.

Its just the world we live in its sad that marijuana is illegal i wouldn't know how safe psychedelics are because ive never done them, but pot shouldn't be illegal.

It really makes no sense why certain things are banned/outlawed.

Drugs are for sad people. I'm happy everyday without getting drugs. I highly recommend TO NOT USE DRUGS! With the money spent on drugs (let's not say heroine, cocaine) you can go to MC Donalds and eat 5 cheesburgers. I'm addicted to MC Donalds.

I personally don't do any illegal drugs...anymore. I see nothing wrong with pot or shrooms and I really enjoyed them before I had to get a real job. I still have many friends that use and it's fine by me because they aren't hurting anyone including themselves.

Honestly I'm a cigarette smoker aand wish they outlawed that instead, maybe that would help me quit. I spend way more on them, they hurt my health and they are so addicting it's not even funny. I kicked a crack habit but can't stop smoking, tell me there isn't something wrong with that statement.

In the drug research community there is no doubt about alcohol and nicotine being at least as addictive as heroin and cocaine. But the currently-legal-drug companies (remember, in the US Alcohol has been prohibited for a while like other drugs now) have enough lobbying power to keep theirs legal and other drugs illegal.

Prohibition never works, particularly as absurd as it is now. The gateway theory revisited:

    1. Kids hear that all now-illegal drugs are straight trips to hell
    2. They see cannabis is actually quite innocent
    3. They stop trusting warnings about drugs and have come into contact with criminals (technically at least), if unlucky with ones having no quals about selling more addictive things
    4. They may think "oh, the info about cannabis was bullshit, crack will probably also be ok"

Drug money is the main fuel for criminal organizations and bad regimes. Regulate them like alcohol and tobacco and you will drain those organizations, get a huge tax gain and can have the police rounding up criminals really hurting others.

some drugs are life changing, others are life threatening. some "legal" are alot worse than the illigal imo

only tryed weed and shrooms :), no idea why they are illigal really, learned alot about my self on shrooms, proberly made me a better person today coz of them.

you can get some powerfull stuff from your doctors (im a chronical pain patient) some of the pills i got from them, where horrible. gotten better effect from weed than morphine and the 400 other kinds of pain medicin they given me thru the years.

atleast weed dont have any major damaging effects on the body and mind.

Actually weed is harmfull. It fucks your head up. My ex girlfriend was a psychiactric nurse and she said there was a very strong connection between heavy cannabis use and mental health problems.
I think you have to smoke a lot of weed to get fucked up but usually if you don't over do things its fine, appart from the nicotine in the tabacco that is... so lung cancer, copd, asthma, bad skin, dimished sense of smell and taste, stinking of smoke, expense etc, are all things to bear in mind of course!

But I'm all for legalising drugs. I think we should have the right to choose for ourselves what we do, but don't kid yourselves that they're all harmless.

Drugs in general, legal or illegal, have an effect on your life. It can be positive but let's not kid ourselfs: mostly it is negative. That counts for illegal AND legal drugs. The overselling of ADD/ADHD and Anti-Depressant medication has destroyed so many brains and lifes, because it was prescribed wrongfully by an ignorant psychiatrist/doctor.

I do however, even as a psychologist, believe in certain drugs that are now illegal in certain situations. Medicinal Marijuana is, when prescribed rightfully, a healing medicine. However, to many potheads in America have misused that concept so, setting its clinical use legally all over the world, another of couple years back.

Street opioids and uppers should never be legalised, because there is no way of helping society or sick people. Even the legal ones, like vicodin, are prescribed to fast and an addiction is never far away.
