    Default Astrology - Fact or Fiction?

    So I never believed in astrology growing up. The daily horoscopes are so generic they can usually apply to anyone. However, I'm starting to have a greater appreciation for the personality traits, especially when it comes to relationships.



    So what sign are you? And do you think the links below accurately portray your personality? I'm a Cancer and I have to admit mine is dead on. So are you believer?

    well as this conversation started with us in Irc let me be the first to post I am a cancer, and I would have to say that the traits are pretty close. As far as believing in Astrology thats a tough call as I really do not count on the stars to dictate my life

    I have to say i have always been some what skeptical of Astrology but after reading this alot of mine (pisces) does actually seem fairly accurate I mean its not 100% accurate but it does basically summarize me, all and all i think i will look at Astrology in another way now

    I'm Sagittarius, and I have to say the description was surprisingly accurate at some points. Honestly, how could I possibly disagree with: "having a Sagittarius in your life will make the sun shine a lot brighter." But then there were some details I didn't recognize at all: like I'm not "unemotional" or "emotionally detached" at all and I'm not into one-night stands either, let alone "a champion of one-night-stands" lol

    So I think there's actually legitimate research that has been done on this. The reason that astrology happens to kind of predict your personality is because of the time that you are born. As babies you develop your mind faster than at any other time in your life. If you are born at a certain time you will experience different things early on than someone born 6 months apart from you. Those experiences affect the development of your mind, personality, learning ability, etc. This doesn't always work, because of location and other factors, but it generally does predict things fairly well.

    I really wish I knew but I'm a Leo and I do fit alot of the charicteristics of Leo. But I guess maybe if I had a so called real reader instead of the crappy newspaper 1s I would believe possibly. No I don't hold much stock in it.

    - Astrology obviously doesnt make sense in a metaphysical world view that is mechanistic and based on materialism. Note that a "superparadigm", is by definition, not based on scientific evidence. But we all have one -- we could have no beliefs of any sort without one.

    In a world view of logical positivism, obviously the idea that the energy of everything around you is intimately connected in some way doesnt seem plausible.

    - Pop astrology is completely different from the astrology of the mystics. The astrology in the view of the mystics such as Yogananda is a very subtle force, based on a mystical world view in which living energy is the primal reality, as opposed to the closed-system, mechanistic one which currently dominates.

    Furthermore, in their view, its not something one can understand by looking at a chart, but one which takes a degree of enlightenment, or mystical wisdom to interpret with any degree of accuracy.


    - Regardless of your world view, it seems pretty absurd to think that all of the millions of people born in the same month, are going to have the same traits, don't you think? A simple look around you should disprove this silliness.

    Again, pop astrology and the mystical traditions of astrology have nothing in common except that they both involve planets.
