Default Child Beauty Pageants: right or wrong?

Look at that beautiful girl. Her mom must really love her to put so much time and effort into their "hobby". To bad she's going to grow up to be a neurotic head case.

What do you think? Is this tantamount to child abuse, or do I just have it all wrong?

KILL IT KILL IT WITH FIRE

This is f*cking wrong and just an excuse to give pedophiles legal child porn. And that scorpion's album but that's beside the point.

That's so funny, it reminds me of this movie, "Little Miss Sunshine", where there's a scene with a really creepy dude who's watching one of these pageants live. Too funny.

You know the pedo's have got to be all over this.

I personally find them a little disgusting but in the overall scheme of things, there are worst things going on in the world.

So to answer the question, no I don't think they are wrong just possibly a little misguided.

I like your answer to this maverick2001 they are completely misguided. I don't like these pageants more because of what the parents put their kids through to try and win a prize or a crown. The parents have taken it to an extreme. The huge hair with excess amount of hairspray, tons of makeup, fake eyelashes, even fake teeth! to cover up those baby teeth, and the worst one of all the tans (spray). I think this is a little excessive. I think that with all these changes they make to their children some of them learn that being fake is the way to be. That it is about the way they look. Don't get me wrong some kids love the attention and they love the excitement but I have seen alot of kids and alot of them are miserable. Toddlars and Tiaras is a show that follows kids around that are in pageants both boys and girls. Some of these parents are crazy subjecting their children to this type of torture. Whatever happened to just being able to be a girl, in pretty little dresses that would love to be a child, not a manikin on display. So I would have to say pageants are not bad themselves, its what they have evolved to is what is bad. For those that do all this stuff to their girls all they are bringing is bad hair when they are older that is either burned, damaged or falls out due to too much crap on their hair. Also a wrinkled face from too much makeup at a young age, and for some (not all) a piss poor attitude thinking they are sooooo pretty.

yeah, i agree with maverick2001. but when the child who participates know that it's just a contest and not to be taken too seriously, it is a good way to promote health, self-confidence, self-respect, stage fright, and stuff like that from an early age.

but of course, when the parents force their kids, or are too obsessed, and are doing it for themselves rather than for the development for their child, then it would be all wrong.

    A+

But the sad fact of truth is that you mostly hear about these overbearing parents who push these ideas and desires on their children.

And it can lead to an unhealthy obsession with looks, eating disorders, and general problems with the child.

let see what a wise guy would say!
Sigmund Freud believed that the way parents dealt with children's basic sexual and aggressive desires would determine how their personalities developed and whether or not they would end up well-adjusted as adults.

Hate it, this is ruining her childhood. Otherwise, she might meet this nice older guy in her 13 or so, get drunk and don't remember her first sex, try her first drug in 14 and end addicted to meth in 20. I mean, world is fucked up already, get used to it :)
In my little town we have this 22 year old homeless junkie who dates clean 14 year old girl. What would you do as her father? Do you think he gets her in the ass?
Pedophiles or not, I hate that kind of awful scary wide open smile this little princess has. Just lookin at that smile makes me sick, the rest is just fucked up.

//turns off tons of sarcasm called up when remembering how much is this world a shit hole.

The childhood is one of the more important/beautiful part of our lives i mean is when you get all the bases for your life is the part when nothing cares and you are free as a bird, with nothing to worry, and they are skipping that part because their parents wants to win some money/ notoriety.
