Default Gay rights, don't ask don't tell, lady gaga's campaign?

Do you think she's doing it just for more publicity (kind of like everything else she does), or do you think her concern is genuine? Is it righteous? Do you think that gay people should have every right to show their sexuality to the world without any discrimination?

    Discuss :D

just somethin that crossed my mind a moment ago after visiting lady gaga's facebook page.

Lady Gaga is a tool. That being said, I believe being homosexual is a wrong lifestyle. But, I also believe every PERSON should have the same rights and treated equally.

It's hard/impossible to know where the line is between doing things for publicity and doing it out of personal concern. I'd probably guess that she knows about the potential for publicity and is doing it mostly for that but that there is likely some minor aspect of personal concern involved. I don't really follow entertainment stuff at all, but that's my very generic impression of what I imagine is most likely. I mean, it's like a billionaire donating a few million to a charity... OK, maybe they care a little, but they're not really disadvantaging themselves and it's more just so that they appear as a friendly philanthropist rather than an evil money hoarder (which they usually still are, regardless).

With everything in life, my philosophy is that if it's not directly hurting people (physically/mentally/whatever else) then I'm all for it. I think everyone has the right to do what they please as long as it's not imposing something on someone else that that person doesn't want (discluding those who don't want things due simply to prejudices). This idea also doesn't include concepts such as making a million/billionaire studio executive earn $5m less per year due to their company losing a little revenue to piracy or somesuch, . I'm all for that happening, heh.

Lady Gaga is a strong advocate for gay rights, whatever you may think about her music. I'm not sure why people are trying to find fault in that. Seems suspiciously homophobic to me.

Just because people dislike her and think she is doing it for publicity then they're homophobic?? Lol, I find that hard to believe because I know a lot of gay people and I still think Lady Gaga is using it for her advantage.

My thoughts would be that Lady Gaga had some concern about the topic, then decided to use it to her full advantage - gaining publicity and all that. I mean she goes out of her way to be "odd", so why not advocate an often controversial topic just to be a little more unique? I'm not saying she doesn't care at all... just that she's pushing it a little further than necessary and gaining a pleasant amount of attention from it like an added bonus.

And for the record I'm not homophobic just cause I think this. lol I just have very little faith in the "morality" and "genuine concern" of the celebrity world. ;)

I just don't understand the hate. The message is very positive anti-gay. What's the upside to turning it into a political argument. Unless of course, you are anti-gay and you want to derail her anti-gay message. I'm just saying, that's how smear campaigns work.

There are a lot of things we don't understand, one of them being the reasons why people dislike and not "hate" people. I just don't like the way she has been going around doing things, and this is no exception.

I personally dislike Lady Gaga's style and music. I believe she's totally going for the publicity. Homosexuals should have a right to express their sexuality freely, however discrimination will always occur because when people fear something they usually tend to hate/try to fix the problem.

I don't think anybody is trying to smear the anti-gay campaign or what she is trying to advocate. It is only her motives that are being questioned. For instance if somebody were to ask if Angelina Jolie adopted for publicity or because she truly loves the children and somebody said she did it only for publicity they wouldn't be bashing adoption or trying to stop her from adopting, they would just be questioning her personal reasons.

And even if gaga is using it to her advantage, it doesn't mean that nothing good will come of it. I enjoy her music and I love her individuality. But being famous is all about the PR you know...

(PS I do think Angelina Jolie is sincere - it was just an example lol)
