Thread: How much is too much to spend on a wedding ring?

2 x Monthly Salary as rule of thumb, obviously depends on personal circumstances.

It is one of those 'how long is a piece of string?' questions.

Due in a large part to the input from this thread, and my own ideas, I think I'm going to go with a white gold band, with diamonds all along the top side of the band and a (not overly large) solitaire diamond on the middle.

Every year on our Anniversary I'll take it in and get one of the diamonds on the band switched out for a sapphire (her favorite stone).

Up front the ring will be around 1800, then each year another 50-100 for the sapphire (but thats the average cost of an anniversary gift anyway).

Hm, that's a very creative idea. Just wondering though, what happens when you finish replacing all the diamonds into sapphires? Buy a new ring?

OK...I assume that by wedding ring you really mean engagement ring. Important not to mix those up! In any case, spending a lot of money on a ring is nonsense materialism. That money would be better put towards your marriage and future children.
