I have pondered this for a long time and yet,....I have still not found the answer. What makes one truly happy? Is it money, power, great sex, material things, a good job? I think I am happy but sometimes I feel like something is missing.

learn this in 11th grade i remembered, true happiness isn't from money (of course), not from your job, not from your position like doctors or from your achievements, its not from being loved by your girlfriend or all people for that matter... these things don't bring happiness, it does by some level but the truest form of happiness is self actualization or self fulfillment... if you don't believe me, here's the triangle:

okay now wtf is actualization ??? i don't have a clue so i googled it and i still don't know wtf it means since i don't think i met a person like this... unfortunately, if u've met one, describe him becuz its cool to be one i guess.

so um here's what psychology.about.com said about self actualization:

    • Acceptance and Realism: Self-actualized people have realistic perceptions of themselves, others and the world around them.
    • Problem-centering: Self-actualized individuals are concerned with solving problems outside of themselves, including helping others and finding solutions to problems in the external world. These people are often motivated by a sense of personal responsibility and ethics.
    • Spontaneity: Self-actualized people are spontaneous in their internal thoughts and outward behavior. While they can conform to rules and social expectations, they also tend to be open and unconventional.
    • Autonomy and Solitude: Another characteristics of self-actualized people is the need for independence and privacy. While they enjoy the company of others, these individuals need time to focus on developing their own individual potential.
    • Continued Freshness of Appreciation: Self-actualized people tend to view the world with a continual sense of appreciation, wonder and awe. Even simple experiences continue to be a source of inspiration and pleasure.
    • Peak Experiences: Individuals who are self-actualized often have what Maslow termed peak experiences, or moments of intense joy, wonder, awe and ecstasy. After these experiences, people feel inspired, strengthened, renewed or transformed.
now u tell me wtf this shit means lol

I think that it's actually the little things that make one happy, aside from of course having something to eat etc. When all those little things are the way you want them to be, you feel like something clicked right into it's place and everything's fine. :)

Well it depends on the person..For a person like me who celebrate small small thing even a good morning call can make me real happy,or when i see some student doing something real gr8....People donating money or helping poor.....kind of like I enjoy my life...
And I don't think there is anythign called true happiness or false happiness...happiness is just happiness..

well, very true, when u see good people doing good things, you remember that moment and you cherish it because it's what life's about. you see a 'hero' in somebody everytime they do something good, so you kind of look up to them and think life is wonderful after all... there are good people out there that strive to do good things, even the littlest things means big things!!!

there´s a difference between happiness and happiness (<<< did you see ? NO ? watch closer. rofl)

    1. happiness is like a joke or a funny thing. you see it the first time and you laugh. that´s it. nothing special. you forget it ever happened.

    2. happiness is like a joke you can´t forget. every time you remember it, you laugh until you laugh-cry. xD (you know the feeling)

since the pyramid is a perfect example, made from the very minds of our most worthy "specialists" , i feel the urge to add my own. xD

weed and other hallucinogenic substances xDDDDDDDD ( high five?! ). though, the effect will wear off and then you will be another miserable soul. xD

before death and after being dead (meaning, you were revived). i think i don´t have to explain this. the reaper man is scary ! xD

*now, i want to apologize for the " xD " . i just have the urge to make you laugh. and the upper text up there, when i mean "you", i meant "someone else"

I think the problem is that people look for happiness, they never find it because they never stop looking. me, I'm at my happiest when I no longer want anything, when I'm no longer striving for something, when I'm sitting in the Forrest letting the trees talk to me.

I completely agree with you here. There's nothing better than the feeling of accomplishment and fulfilment.

I'm an odd ball though when it comes to happiness. I'm the kind of guy who wouldn't mind having the most stressful job, such as running a small country, or just sitting on a farm forgetting about all of this technology and such.
I can be secluded or in a highly populated city.
The point is though, where ever I may be, being at peace with myself and others around me just makes me happy. So it will change everyday for me whether I feel comfortable in the day or not.

Things that make me happy - a warm shower and clean sheets. Waking up to Jay's voice. A new book to read on my Kindle. A clean house. Finding money where I least expect it. Making presents for my loved ones. Getting hugs from my loved ones. Watching the kids on Easter Sunday. Planning my wedding. A new pair of Manolo Blahniks. The color pink...

This thread reminds me of a song I used to love as a child:

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

    When the dog bites
    When the bee stings
    When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
