Hmm, life after death, heaven, nirvana whatever. What do you think will happen/what do you want to happen. Are you scared of death? Or do you simply see it as another journey through life?

I think, we won't notice death, as much as you don't notice our own breathing. It'll be something that happens, that will be over as fast as the click of your fingers, but for all eternity.

I want to believe in reincarnation. Your deeds at this time reflect what you will be in the next life, but I highly doubt it will happen.

Am I scared? Of course I am, leaving everyone behind that I've loved and never seeing them again, just fills me with dread. But, I don't dwell on it all to often.

    Anyway, your thoughts?

I do not believe in reincarnation. I believe one body, one soul, one spirit. We have to be judged for our sins and how would God judge say a person who has died and been reincarnated 5 times? I do believe in life after death and i think where we go is based on how we lived when we were alive. We all want to believe our loved ones are in a better place when they die but the truth is, no one knows. I say look at how they lived and one can at least speculate where their spirits are resting.

As for myself, I'm not scared of death because -as surely as a man lives, he must one day die. The scary part is not knowing what will happen to those whom we leave behind. All you can do is live your best life, help others, love God, and love our earth. Death is but a part of life.

That's probably the closest to the truth. In physics there's a law called the "conservation of mass", and what that essentially means, in relation to an organism's death, is that all the elements (think atoms) that make up that organism will eventually be recycled into other organisms, hence reincarnation. For example, your body today contains some of the atoms that made up Albert Einstein. Trippy, but 100% true.

As far as the fear of death goes, I'll have to quote one of my favorite philosophers, Epicurus:
“Why should I fear death? If I am, death is not. If death is, I am not. Why should I fear that which can only exist when I do not?”

yea this is a really rough question and i have indeed pondered this question before and i haven't found a friggin answer to my own question. and if u were to ask me this question, i would say i don't know what will happen to me after i were to decease.

i as born a christian so i believe in a heaven and hell, if u do good, u go to heaven, do bad or don't believe in God, u go to hell, pretty simple.

but i can't help but wonder if that's true, even though like what 2 billion out of 6.5 billion people believes in heaven and hell. i mean, seriously, if i were to 'not exist' like without conscious, then wtf am i gonna be!!!???

There begs the question, if i have a conscious, then there must be a creator who gave it to me. Or was all this part of nature because the earth has all the conditions to create human.

i realized that i was human with a conscious and freedom to do as i wish... and it was a wonderful feeling... was it God given?

If it really is, thank you! They say that blessed is the one who believes but doesn't see. May God bless you.

Honestly, I want to believe in heaven, and I want to believe that there is life after death, no matter the definition of 'life', for as long as the awareness of living is there. But that's not the case for me as much as I want to believe it.

State of Nirvana, Heaven - that's all they are. States. The last thought you have is the thought of joining our creator, or that we're going to be reincarnated in one way or another. That will give you a peace of mind when you die, and makes you settle for the sad, unfortunate nothingness that comes after life - those states of the mind give you the happiness to settle with something that's the exact opposite. We believe what we want to believe, but that's all there is to it. They're states of the mind.

In moments when I'm alone, the idea of death comes to me. Darkness. Nothingness. Everything you've done in your life - you won't even know you existed - you won't even know, period. And I dread the very thought of it. The lack of scientific evidence for life after death is unsettling, and I hope I am wrong.

I think there will be nothingness after death. To me, that means I need to make sure to have enjoyed life, hopefully helping others enjoy their life as well.

Somebody people have their heart stop (say in a hospital) and are ressusitated and have claimed to have some recollections of the event, you can read about this stuff online.

Personally, I think it would be awesome if life after death was similar to ascension in the show Stargate. Basically, after you die your mind continues on as some form of energy. You're completely conscious and can do practically whatever you wish. But I'm also a scientist and that's more just a dream. I mostly believe this life is all there is and you must live it to the fullest, because it's the only chance you get.

This is the principal you see coming out of the mouth of atheistically minded people over and over again. It's not because we get together and have meetings, or that we have an atheist cult leader who tells us what to think, it's because that's the only sensible way to live your life once you stop buying what the hucksters are pitching. Ultimately, I think that every believer's subconscious knows what awaits them after death. Just look at how hard they try to stay alive. If, as a believer, you knew you were going to heaven to meet up with your long lost friends and family, would you ever once bother going to a doctor or a hospital?
