I was talking with several friends and we had a conversation about life. The following 3 questions were asked and discussed. The conversation was interesting so I thought I'd post the questions here to see what you all think.

    What's worth living for?
    What's worth fighting for?
    What's worth dying for?

My answer to all 3 was the same, one word.....freedom.

How would you answer and why?

Not to sound all girly, but my answer would be love. My reasoning is because this is a constant in a free state as well as an oppressed one. Life without someone to care for or someone who cares for you is just not a life worth living.

When you make a thread title in the brain stew section make
sure you use proper grammar rather than internet speak. I.E "you---> U" "Why----> Y" etc.

    Thread title edited.

your title: How Would you Answer These Questions
Correct title: How would you answer these questions?

What's worth living for? - The enjoyment of life, and being here to help people.
What's worth fighting for? I agree here, freedom. But that's it, I don't agree with war, I easily forgive, so I would only fight for my freedom.
What's worth dying for? Loved ones, someone greater to you, or very important to you.
He watches you while you pee. He watches you while you sleep. He can turn a Mini in to a Ferarri. His mind works in mysterious ways. You have the urge to kill someone, he has done it already. From the shadows in the valley of death, he is The Exalted!
    Thanks MrI for the avatar.

    What's worth living for?

Death is worth living for, or at least the fear of it is. Most people have a nice little picture of what life after death is going to look like, but we all know deep down it's going to be nothingness. If we really thought what we think we do then you would see tons of people jumping off of bridges and cliffs all the time to see god or the true self. Death is something that all of us will experience, but most of us are going to try to prolong inevitable.

    What's worth fighting for?

Friends, family, sanity, black friday deals, the last garlic biscuit at red lobster.

    What's worth dying for?

Anyone or thing you truly love is worth dying for, but only in certain circumstances. If the thing isn't worth more than your life or the person was asking for death then you shouldn't sacrifice yourself.

Really? And why wouldn't people who believe in nothingness theory start "jumping off of bridges and cliffs", if there is only nothingness after death and whole this life and troubles in it are pointless, meaningless?

You see most religions are clearly against suicides, some people, for example, believe in reincarnation so really what is the point in killing oneself if you'll only get reborn in lower state as punishment? Those people have some meaning in their lives, whether they are right or not about it is unimportant, the point is they have something to live for, so why would they start killing themselves?

Concerning fear of death, I don't believe people are actually afraid of death, after all it's pointless to fear it since it's inevitable, I think what people are really afraid of is unknown, and honestly can you claim that you are absolutely certain that there's nothing after this life? No, of course you can't, neither can people who belief otherwise, and that is what frightens us most - lack of knowledge, lack of understanding, in one word unknown.

Yup. Succinct, perfect. The only thing I'm shaking my head at is the red, white and blue. You realize that the concepts of freedom and liberty also exist outside of the USA right? When I see it in that context, it makes me think of the "freedom" that's used as divisive political rhetoric in the US.

I would encourage people to look into what their local civil liberties organization is doing, and try to figure out how they can help. That is if you really care about freedom.

Indeed, freedom and USA. Unfortunately lots of Americans are held captive by their own ignorance and unwillingness to recognize rights and freedoms of other people.

And after all what is freedom in this rotten world we live in? Freedom is, well, I'm afraid it's like someone said, - Freedom is a statue in New York harbor. But it's certainly worth to fight for freedom, for true and real freedom and not the fake one that is being sold as cheap propaganda for recruiting new troops for futile and pointless wars.

On the other hand he might have made a mistake and he actually wanted to make it blue-white-red while yelling from top of his lungs "Liberté, égalité, fraternité". :001_tongue:
Who nows, after all there are dozens of countries which use red, white and blue as their colors (and did so long before USA existed).

    What's worth living for?
Being happy and a good person

    What's worth fighting for?
    EQUALITY!

    What's worth dying for?
anything that is of value to you, specially friends, family, other people, and pets.
material things are not worth dying for tho, specially those mass produced stuff.
i always read stories about people trying to save their cellphones when getting robbed, cars and homes when there is a natural disaster, and other useless stuff before their lives or others. shame.
