I bring this subject up not only because it has been an issue in the United States for many years but because I have heard it is an issue in many different countries. I have a few questions for people.

    What country are you from?
Are you in favor for Illegal Immigration?
Do you think Immigration helps the country?
Should Immigrants be allowed to become legal?
Should people be forced to learn the language of the country they are immigrating to?

I will begin with my answers and I will warn you this may become a heated discussion or it can be a civilized discussion between people since T-I does have a very diverse culture. I myself am a product of Illegal Immigrants but that doesn't mean I am for immigration. Here are my answers...............

I am not in favor of illegal immigration since it has been such a huge issue in the United States and alot of the times immigration has hurt our economy as opposed to helping it. People who are true citizens that need help from the government are sometime rejected and yet so many immigrants that do not have the legal right to be here get help, I dont think this is right.

I don't think illegal immigration helps this country because it makes the populations grow and grow and those who are working illegally are not paying out in taxes what people who are here legally are.

I am not opposed to immigrants becoming legal just as long as they go through the proper channels and wait the appropriate amount of time for their paperwork to get processed and pay the fines that are asked of them, also it wouldnt hurt for people to actually take the time to learn the language of the country they are trying to become a citizen of.

That should probably answer my question to the last one yes people should learn the language. I have an example for you guys I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California this is one of the biggest melting pots I have ever seen. So many cultures mixed, so many different kinds of people but it is sad sometimes when you go to a place like Mcdonalds and you try to order through the drive-thru and the person cannot understand you.

As I said before don't get me wrong I am a product of Immigrants both my parents were illegal immigrants but I was fortunate enough to be born in the United States which automatically granted me my citizenship. But I did have to learn the language as unfortunately I was raised in a Spanish speaking home. My brothers and sister were all illegal immigrants, they all learned the language and went through the channels to become citizens and they now are citizens. So now I ask for your opinions...........

Many of this is true but many many people are not safe in their own countries so they have no other choice but to flee the country and work in other countries illegally. If they don't get accepted in the UK or america or whatever then they would have no other choice but to hide and work illegally. Most of them work in low paid jobs. This isn't has big has HB has written but i hope it explains a bit of my side.

hummingbird, I just have to make a point of clarification about the topic. No one is in favor of illegal immigration. What I think you're trying to say is, what should we do about illegal immigration? I think this is an important distinction, since no one wants people to risk their lives trying to enter a country, or to live and work underground and be exploited by others for that reason.

To answer your question, I too am the product of immigrants (not illegal). I similarly grew up in a home that spoke a foreign tongue, but then learned English in school. What I think is fairly common no matter where you come from is that immigrants will typically have a harder time learning the local language depending on their age. The younger ones will have an easier time assimilating, while the older ones will obviously have more difficulty. Whatever your personal frustrations with immigrants not being able to speak English, I don't think it's intentional on their part. Either way, this is a moot point because the very next generation will be very well assimilated, and the generation following that will have all but forgotten their roots.

On the question of what to do with illegals, I would like to remind everyone that regardless of what you may think, say, or legislate, illegal immigration will NOT stop as long as there is such a wide disparity in wealth and standard of living between countries. To use the US and Mexico as an example, it wouldn't matter if you built a wall and posted a rifleman every 100 yards. People who are desperate enough will find a way in. I personally think that based on humanitarian grounds, there should be some kind of program to forgive those who are already in the country. And I'm just being practical. Keeping them out is all but impossible, so why force them underground? What does that accomplish?

Generally, immigration is a good thing. You can't be a product of immigrants, and not agree with that statement without sounding like a hypocrite. And if you're living in North America and not a Native American, you're the product of immigrants.

I'm from the UK, we have just as much trouble as the US, though luckily we are an island. I am not in favour of illegal immigration, no illegal immigration doesn't help the country, though some legal immigration does. Illegal immigrants should, and are, deported immediately. Legal immigrants shouldn't have to learn the language but if they don't they are stuffed.

    What country are you from?

    The Netherlands

Are you in favor for Illegal Immigration?

No, not at all, they cost more money than they add to the society

Do you think Immigration helps the country?

Yes, it definitely can. We have a big Chinese community which could help us create the bridge between east and west

Should Immigrants be allowed to become legal?

No, you're a legal immigrant or not. Your motivation is honest or not. At the time of application, there are rules, trends etc. which make someone illegal or legal immigrant, and I think that's it. So please, only come if you're authentically in need of help, not just economic migration.

Should people be forced to learn the language of the country they are immigrating to?

Ehm, well I am not sure here. I don't like to force people to learn Dutch, but I respect them so much more if they give it a try. It's respecting your environment, and if you do so, people will look upon you as one of their own.

Are you in favor for Illegal Immigration?
This is a difficult question to answer. Everybody should have a right to live and a place to live. Countries and borders were not created by God, they were created by man. It is the phenomenon of the 20th c. Lot of people had displaced forcefully too. Rules i believe are made for good governance and it is inhuman to deny human beings their basic rights

Do you think Immigration helps the country?
It adds to man power. It brings people with different worldviews together.

Should Immigrants be allowed to become legal?
It is a state policy. They have to decide keeping in mind the questions of terrorism and security.

Should people be forced to learn the language of the country they are immigrating to?
Not necessarily. But if they learn of their own it would be an welcome addition and they will be able to mix with the mainstream with more ease.

Hi fellas, interesting point of views you all have, here is what I think

    What country are you from?
    Mexico

Are you in favor for Illegal Immigration?
    Yes

Do you think Immigration helps the country?
My country as well as many others was built by illegal immigrants so yes

Should Immigrants be allowed to become legal?
I think borders should become illegal

Should people be forced to learn the language of the country they are immigrating to?
not forced but receive assistance to do so.

Just think about the history of human civilization and I believe there is nothing that wasn't formed by immigrants, tribes, cultures, kingdoms and now countries, so I guess there is nothing wrong on being in favor of immigration.

I am not in favor of private property, therefore I don't believe in the concept of illegal immigrants, its like a 19th century farmer complaining of the indians from whom he stole the lands, and then calling that rightfully his, its nonsense to me.

Human society has progressed by culture exchanges, think for a moment, what would happen if you never left your so called house? how many things would you miss? With no immigration I can at least say goodbye to many cool foods that I love, music, people, etc.

There is a difference between a criminal and an immigrant, a criminal is always treated as a criminal no matter the country (based on each county laws of course), an immigrant is just people moving from a place to another not a criminal.

There are positive and negative results of immigration, however according to what I know, the world's most powerful country was made by immigrants, so...

    USA

Are you in favor for Illegal Immigration?
Only if it is truly neccessary, like if you are living in extreme poverty or other horrible conditions.

Do you think Immigration helps the country?
Yes I do. People say illegal immigration is a burden on our country and they steal our jobs, etc, etc yet thats not true at all. Illegal immigrants do all the hard work that no one else is willing to do. Illegal immigrants also do pay taxes. When they get their pay check money is automatically taken out to get to the state, federal, and fica, and social security.

Should Immigrants be allowed to become legal?
    Not sure on this one.

Should people be forced to learn the language of the country they are immigrating to?
Yes, immigrants should have to learn the language of the country they immigrate to. You shouldn't come to a country and not know how to speak the language.

I know several illegal immigrants who live here in the US. They are just regular people trying to make a living. Most of them work 2-3 jobs making minimum wage to support their families. I cant blame them for coming here to have a better life. After all this country was founded on immigration. It would be alot cheaper to let people in then to try and keep them out.
