Thread: Do you think this planet is slowly going to Hell?

It'll be a bit hard for me to formulate all this.. bear with me.

Do you think that, at the present pace of things, the Earth will surely be doomed by the corruption of the race that lives on it? You can see all the bad things happening around you, the children in Africa dying from hunger and AIDS, the crisis in the Middle East, every country pursuing their own interests, and people generally showing disregard for the well being of others, as well as themselves. There seems to be so few people that care for the next generations, the fact that our children and grandchildren will be the ones dealing with global warming, and all other troubles in the world. I'm not pessimistic here, or anything, just making out a bigger picture of everything.

    well,
last night I was watching Chernoby - Life I the dead zone, from Discovery Channel, and it struck me, how nature is taking over what was ones theirs. Even dhow we f*cked up nature really hard, it still has the ability to adapt. Sure there is a lot of mutation due to the radiation, but hellooo, mutation is the second step in evolution! So.. well I agree that we are really messing things up, but I think, in the end, it will always be nature who controls. (f.e. one virus or bacteria, as little as it is, can still bring death upon us.. )

Damn.. that sound harsh "slowly going to hell". This planet is always like this, arguments happen between countries, plagues happen apparently from "God".

I'd have to go with nehpets on this one. As long as we control nuclear power tightly, we shouldn't completely go to hell .

Plenty of people care for the well-being of others. There will always be more people who are interested solely in themselves though.

I don't think it will happen for a long time.. but I think the world should unite and just be Earth, rather than all these divided countries.

I believe that this planet has been turned into a hell by us, however once we are gone it will change into something different. The only way this planet goes to hell is by getting hit by an asteroid, solar flare, etc. I hope that's what you want to ask, if you are talking on the religious point of view I'll have to pass on answering.

As if the human race is going to hell, I believe so, very fast and with no breaks at all, call me a pessimist but i think we have passed the point of no return a while ago, we just forget that we also are a part of the food chain and a large ecosystem.

Its gonna be be ironic to see that after all we wont need anything else to survive since we will end up eating ourselves, no more dependence on anything else (sorry, sometimes I cant stop myself from this type of comments)

if you are referring to the degredation of the world in general, i.e. global warming, 9/11 / terrorism, president bush & Dick Cheyney, etc, etc, im not too sure on that one. Human nature has not changed a whole lot in over 2,000 years, just the way we do things thanks to technological advancements. People have always been blowing each other up over disagreements, land, natural resources, etc. Hunger and starvation have been prevalent since the dawn of man kind.

I think the world is definitely going down hill, but I think it's going down fast, not slow. I'm not talking about disease or hunger, because those are all natural. And in any case we're living longer today than in any time through history. I'm talking about man-made disasters.

kevodgg is right - humans have not changed at all in the way we think or act, only our tools have changed. We have the power to do more damage to the Earth at a faster rate than ever before. We spend more money on things to help us live longer and more comfortably as individuals, but turn a blind eye to the true cost of our luxuries. The Earth's resources are being depleted to the point they might not even last through my son's generation. Sure there are token efforts to reduce carbon emissions and find alternatives to oil, but they've been looking at the same solutions for years and none of them have really caught on.

I agree w/ konVILEuted that plenty of people who care for others, but unfortunately none of them are in the government, and most likely none of them want to be. Government officials just by definition care only about their country, and they do so at the expense of every other country in the world. This is why we have arms races and embargoes which only escalate matters. This is how humans have lived for all of recorded history.

People hear the terms "New World Order" or "One World Government" and they immediately think of evil conspiracies, etc. I think the way we live right now is much more evil. Take the amount of money the US has spent on the war in Iraq/Afghanistan and compare it to the amount spent on food and water for those starving in other countries. I have no idea what the numbers are but I bet I can make a blind guess at which number is higher. Could one government ruling all countries possibly do us any worse than we're already doing to ourselves?

I think Maelstrom hit the nail on the head. WE are the ones turning the planet into hell. The funny thing is, everyone knows it and yet no one does much about it. I don't necessarily think we are past the point of return, but I think our mindset needs to change. We need stop thinking of ourselves as Americans, Chinese, Russians, etc and start thinking of ourselves as *humans*. This is the only way we will ever be able to cooperate and come up with the solutions needed to save ourselves.

I leave you with a quote that I heard from Sir Ken Robinson on TED Talks the other day:
"If all the insects were to disappear from the earth, within 50 years all life on earth would end. If all human beings disappeared from the earth, within 50 years all forms of life would flourish." - Jonas Salk

I agree with you completely on that. Take away all of humanity's technology, no matter how crude, they would devolve to the animals they really are.

I agree with both of the above quotes ^^^^^^

And ive talked about this topic multiple times with someone here in PM, we tend to have very different view points but i respect him so much that he may truely be starting to change my mind. Just yesterday we talked for a while about a NWO which isnt directly releated to this but also kind of is, depending on who you interupt "going to hell" and preventions/changes.

I PERSONALLY think that, Yes the people currently occupying this planet cant not possibly survive at the current pace that we are progressing. I think that to survive the Planet on an INDIVIDUAL basis would have to decide that they WANT to change and then actually put forth an effort to change.

I dont think that will ever happen as people are, i believe, always motivated by greed and desire for material items, even if not all people are (and i will be the first to admit not all people are. there are some truly amazing people out there.) controled by greed the greater majority are and im not very optimistic that, that will ever change.

I guess i have a very bleek look on it; but i could talk about this topic all day, and im kinda tired so i think..for the moment...ill just leave it at that.
