I'm sure we have all heard of Artificial Intelligence(AI) at on point or another. There are tons of movie's that show a world where computers take over. Look at skynet, an AI that has gone rouge and has killed or enslaved most of humanity. However, there can be many positive sides of it, as well. We could use AI robots to complete dangerous tasks, or help us as a personal secretary.

So what do YOU think about it? Would you gladly accept it or reject it?

Personally I am against it. Computers would learn so much that they will choose a logical decision and hurt their creators. There must be set limits imposed to it, at the least.

It will definitely be the human civilization's undoing, sooner or later, one way or the other.

Im all for it, I think we cant handle too much power or pressure, I believe a machine can make good decisions based on the information its given (so do we, sadly some of us tend to hold on to that knowledge for our personal gain). Artificial intellenge can become great, but also could become bad if people is stripped of food or shelter for not doing a job a machine does 1000 times better.
Im for it, but before AI can serve, society must change to ensure adaptability and sustentability after all a machine would be all we want it to be or not to be.

They might be the harbinger of the apocalypse, but I am really psyched about the potential artificial intelligence has. It is inevitable - some time within the next decade or so, a computer will have surpass the process power of the human brain. It is a tool that has so many creative and helpful applications, I cannot even begin to list them. But, like splitting the atom, it can also be used to bring about the destruction of... well... everything. I am however an optimist, and I'd like to think that the good people in this world will find ways to counteract the bad guys. I envision anti-virus companies and white-hat hackers will adapt/evolve to meet the challenge.

AI isn't the least bt threatening. AI is prgramed to teach itself based upon input and information it can access. AI doesn't evolve like man does and do selfish wicked things based upon survival and animalistic instincts because it has none aside from whats programed and within it's scope. AI has no motive to build an army of self propelled cars and toasters to enslave humanity. This isn't the SYFY channel. AI will help you access news and perform routine daily tasks. I'm all for it.

I'd prefer a pet zombie but the likelihood of that happening appears to be nil, so I'll have a bot, I guess. =)

Does an A.I. have the potential to be a great thing? Absolutely. Could it lead to a disastrous conclusion? Sure. But that could said about practically anything. The whole point of movies is that something bad happens. Something bad always happens in movies because that's what forms a movie. Conflict. That doesn't necessarily have to be the case here. I think we're fully capable of controlling our creations before they're able to make conscious decisions for themselves.

It'd be pretty cool to witness though. Heh.

It's a GREAT thing! I think we've reached the peak of human intelligence a long time ago and it's time to see what these cyborg freaks are made of. I think it will be quite easy for them to create some really amazing that we can't even imagine once they truly have their own intelligence because they aren't weighed down with all baggage included with having a human brain. I wont even go into the negatives because my opinions on what could go wrong is based on movies like I-Robot and The Terminator and probably very unrealistic.

This is needed for mankind to progress to the next stage of our development as a species. Once we have this then we can move towards having robots/machines to do the jobs that mankind shouldn't have to do an purely move into highly skilled jobs.

Also, it would be super easy to kill terminators/iRobots, EMPs are perfect for that kind of rebellion.

The most sophisticated hardware and software of today (and for the foreseeable future) is an infinitesimally small fraction of the complexity of the human brain. Without any hyperbole, I can comfortably say that the human brain is the most complex thing in the known universe. Billions of years of evolution made it that way. AI, sadly, is science fiction. At least for the foreseeable future. I'm sure for marketing purposes companies will call some clever little algorithm 'AI', but it will not compare to humans. Look up the "Turing Test" if you're interested in this topic.

Robots are indeed in our future, but they will not be self aware. They will follow their programming. Bugs and all. They will be programmed to imitate human behavior, but that's about it. There is a fare amount of robotics research being done in Japan and Korea I believe. The Japanese seem to think that robotics is the future. What a bunch of dummies eh? Everyone's probably seen Asimo by now. It's amazing. Developed by Honda I believe. Their idea is that once they've mastered the intricacies of human like locomotion and agility, they're going to sell them as sub-components to other manufacturers. They're going to make a killing. The idea would be that large companies would order the robots with basic operating software from them, then load in their own specific programs for say gardening or house cleaning or what have you, before marketing them to us. I hope I live long enough to see this.
