    I love my dog. I think I loved a girl once but probably not. I'd imagine love is real just because everybody else says unless it's a giant conspiracy.

    I hate you for creating this :P
    In my opinion love is real. I've only loved once so far, not guna go into what happened.
    You can't really explain what love is. Its just an amazing, calming feeling you get when you see the person you love.
    You'll know what love is when you find it

    Sure. But only within my own family. I have a deep affection for my Grandmother, which probably has a lot to do with the fact that she practically raised me when I was a tyke.

    Love is a tricky thing. I don't believe in "love at first sight". I think it's something that takes time to realize.

    In my opinion, 'Love' is the word used to describe two positive energies.

    Since everything in existence is really just energy (protons, neutrons, electrons), we are just the same but on a much more complexed level, obviously. So when a person loves someone or something such as their pet or sometimes an item (My computer), it is a positive connection which brings joy or happiness between the 2 sets of energies (A person, item or pet, etc) and obviously there's never a bad thing about something being too good, so I call this love.

    But without being said, love can be confused with hate, or the lack of happiness.

    And obviously one must be 'alive' to experience these feelings, or do they...?

    I believe that love is real, however that you can't fully express. Sure, we humans feel that type of attraction, but we can't actually express in words how it feels, so we say no, love doesn't exist. Think of it this other way. Do you feel when you are hurt? How about when you are sad? Those feelings, I am sure you have felt. Love is one of those feelings, I believe.

    Love is very subjective, especially in this day and age, I believe that nowadays "true" love has lost its real meaning, its a complex issue.

    For example, if love was so true and strong and what not, why is the divorce rate so high in western society?

    Just look at Tiger Woods, from the outside looking in in terms of the general public, we would be so envious of his success and his marriage, many people would have thought what a wonderful life he was living. And now, as the media puts it about Tiger's "transgressions" have brought him down.

    I believe that in the end, regardless of how much you may discuss this topic, true "love" can only be discovered by the individual, if and when that happens only then can you decide.

    BTW, since this was posted I just saw on facebook that my crush is now engaged. I guess love exists for some people.

    Of course love is real. It's the driving force behind so many actions...

    Are you talking about romantic love? I'll respond as if you are...

    I know romantic love is real because for the first time in my life I've experienced it. And for the first time, I've truly been loved back. My boyfriend is kind, caring, considerate, always puts my needs first, is slow to anger and quick to show compassion. He thinks of me in everything he does and it shows. He's there when I need him, offers guidance when I need it, and fulfills my every need. While we have definitely had our problems, we've weathered them with mutual respect and compassion.

    The reason that the divorce rate is so high in the Western world is not because love isn't real but because so many people have forgotten how to fight for what they want. People (especially Americans) are lazy and opportunistic; desiring only immediate gratification in lieu of long lasting satisfaction. These traits are obvious in so much of this country - excess and waste. Divorce, in my opinion, is a sign of laziness.

    True love is so much more than a feeling of affection or lust. Love is an act, not a word. It's understanding, compassion, compromise, integrity and mutual respect. It's putting someone elses needs before your own and doing it because you want to.

    Whether you are a religious person or not, this biblical quote sums up love perfectly:

    “Love is patient; love is kind
    and envies no one.
    Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude;
    never selfish, not quick to take offense.
    There is nothing love cannot face;
    there is no limit to its faith,
    its hope, and endurance.
    In a word, there are three things
    that last forever: faith, hope, and love;
    but the greatest of them all is love.” - 1 Corinthians
