First off, as a survivor of cancer (not lung or skin) I'm glad to see that we're getting closer to mapping out the various forms. Who knows, if it had been mapped out 20 years ago I most likely would have avoided what I went through at such a young age.

That being said, I think that this will do more to discourage smoking than to encourage it. Fact No. 1 is pretty scary to think about, knowing that every 15 smokes you have is causing further damage to your body should frighten a lot of people to at least reduce the amount they smoke if not quit altogether.

Fact No. 2 - While this may appear to encourage smoking, I don't think it does. Cancer isn't the only reason people are against smoking. It's a disgusting habit and it makes those around you suffer. Just because you want to dish out the money to cure the cancer you get from smoking doesn't mean everyone else wants to dish out money to fix the problems they have to deal with because of your nasty pointless habit.

There are a lot of people in the world that just do what they want without any thought, but I cannot for the life of me understand why after seeing the first fact anyone would continue to harm their body KNOWING that there is absolutely nothing positive to be gained by it.

I do not and will not ever accept the excuse that it's too hard to quit. Everybody has a different level of will power, that's true. Some argue that they are too *weak* (they use other words) to quit smoking. Plain and simple fact is, that's crap. A person will not change a habit until it becomes too inconvenient to continue.

If a smoker was about to lose whatever it is they cherish most in life (not counting smoking) and they knew that they could save it by just quitting (be it family, friends, their LIFE) they would do so. People need motivation, that's all.

Smoking isn't the only thing I can't understand, I also don't understand why people harm their body with other substances, like drugs (including weed), and alcohol. It is simple self destruction. It does nothing to make your life better, the only thing you can even attempt to claim is that it makes you better able to deal with the life you had.

Personally, I have accepted that life isn't always easy, but I do also realize it's always worth it. I won't use a crutch just to go through my days, if you can't get through life without drinking or smoking, are you even really living? I don't think so.

A few painless moments of pleasure for the possibility of liver failure or lung cancer, and the absolute certainty of lost brain cells.... only a moron would consider that worth it.

If you smoke/drink/do drugs, do yourself and everyone around you a favor and quit.
