Simply the chances of life is enough for me to believe. There's no way that we are the only ones in the universe. it's almost like saying that I am the only one who is wearing a brown shirt and has a name of Derek in the whole world. Chances are good that there is someone else just like me.
I have no real "encounters" so I am just replying using logic. The thing that I can say with certainty is this: "We don't know". I don't believe that quoting lines from "alien" films will make their existence, any more likely...
of course it exists, i mean think about how could we possibly think that we are the only things that are living in the universe, its kind of how when the Europeans traveled the ocean in search of new life, in their ships, they thought nothing existed besides them, and lo and behold there was a whole other bunch of civilizations that had been there for many thousands of years already., so i think of course they exist, we just have not been able to build that ship to take use there to explore.
Believe it or not I grew up in a place away from city lights and technology and early in the morning I could see this little things in the sky they were like starts but were moving on different direction.
and I believe there is life somewhere else and they have here or sent there creations to study us.
I used to not believe in things like this until one day I asked a family member who worked for NASA for over 30 years, if "strange things were ever spotted" and I was told "You got briefed, then debriefed"
Take it for what you will.
I think that there probably are aliens out there. I do not however believe there are any aliens even remotely close to the technological stage that we are in. Chances are if there are aliens out there they are either have almost no intelligence whatsoever or they are far beyond our intelligence.
I'm sure aliens have existed, exist, and will exist somewhere in the universe. I think it is however statically impossible that there will ever be any kind of encounter between two advanced beings in the universe.
Probability says that aliens exist, sure. But what's the chance of two advanced civilizations being advanced at the same time (taking into account the speed of light for radio signals) and therefore being able to communicate? We must also consider that if we ever receive an alien radio signal, chances are that their civilization has collapsed by the time we receive it.
There is another interesting theory:
What if aliens exists and they have contacted earth but the species they are contacting arent us but are mice or cockroach or any other being. It is so arrogant of us humans to think that we are the most important species on earth
Even i believe that there is a high probability of aliens being present in some corner of the universe.
Well... I actually don't believe it is that arrogant to believe we would be identified as the dominant and most interesting species on this planet. That being said, humans (or more accurately scientists) haven't really left this up to chance. Since we ourselves are looking for ways to identify intelligent life on other planets, studies have been done, and papers have been written, about how this would likely be done, both by us and a species from another planet.
First of all, it is likely that an alien race that has developed techniques to communicate with us would be able to identify human technology. Presumably, they would have had to make similar discoveries and build their own structures in order to either make it here to earth or send something to us in order to communicate. Considering how universal concerns like shelter, food, etc are to life here on earth, it stands to reason that life on other planets would have similar requirements. In that respect, intelligent life from another planet should be able to recognize structures like buildings as providing shelter and farms as providing food, even if their own society has developed structures which look vastly different.
Secondly, they have intelligence and they are trying to communicate with another species that is millions upon millions of miles away. This suggests very strongly that they are social creatures. In fact, some of the leading theories about human intelligence suggest that it developed as a type of mating ritual. Some birds have brightly colored feathers - humans have intelligence. If intelligence really did develop in this way, then it is likely that an alien species with the intelligence to communicate extraterrestrially would have similar values. Even if this theory is incorrect, the very fact that they are attempting to communicate implies that they are seeking social comfort - knowing that something else is out there. If not, why communicate in the first place? Although studies on Dolphins, whales, and wolves actually reveal significant communication ability and highly social tendencies, it is still more likely that humans would be identified as the most socially competent creature on this planet.
Finally, we are trying to communicate with them. It is likely they would be able to discover this. The rest of this point should be pretty obvious....
Soo... yeah.. it's not really that arrogant, but it's also not that obvious either, unless you spend a few minutes thinking about it.
