Thread: Do you believe in God?

i think what the op really meant was "do you believe in organized religion?" simply asking do you believe in god is very vague. every religion has their own god so to generalize "god" as the one and only is simply closed minded. all religions believe to their soul in their god and have eons of history behind their theory's. so is it like one day buddah and the christian god should slug it out in a celebrity death match to see who is the one true god? lol as funny as that would be in stop motion animation i doubt if any kind of contest could prove without a doubt that there is one true god. so the real question is do we believe what organized religion tells us is god? and the only answer anyone can give is based on opinion because there is no physical proof. its like saying do you believe in dark matter? i believe it could exist because i believe anything is possible. but has it been proven to exist? no not yet. does not mean its not there and does not mean it could be the most powerful substance in existence. its just a theory or an opinion. to me the greatest creator known to man is the human imagination.. we can cook up anything in our little heads and make it sound so good idiots everywhere will believe in it for thousands of years. so did god create us or did we create him as a means to fill a void we just dont understand or know how to answer. the good old "where did we come from?" i hope we find out one day. it may be the biggest thing to ever happen to earth or it may just be a big disappointment . either way my mind shall remain open to receive the truth whatever it may be. simply because i dont wanna feel the sting of having a firm belief system only to have it blow up in my face in the end when the truth ends up being the furthest thing from what any of us believed. so my stance is until the truth is know so shall it remain unknown.

Just quit the church a few months back, as I couldn't follow what the church stood for. I believe in science and think it's the way forward.
Though we need to acknowledge that not everyone feel this way and that religion has it's good side which a lot of the time is rarely mentioned.
Being arrogant and closed minded isn't something that belongs to the church and I have seen my share of such Atheist.
I have my doubt that anyone will acually be able to anwser this question completely true, because even the strongest believers can in a "weak" state doubt their believes as well as person in denial in a bad state of his life sometimes calls out for god or just anyone.

Getting close to answering this question I believe you yourself most first define what the word believe and god means to you both in a strong state aswell as in a weak state.

As I would like to be able to call myself for a Bright I would want nothing more to stand corrected, but have never myself experince a person that wouldn't admit to failing into that earlier mention situation.

Definitely no to the god we all know from religion.

However I believe that there is a force that created the universe.
I don't think that we're all here because of coincidence.

Doesn't the force = God, in a sense? Belief in God is pretty much universal, it doesn't matter what religion you worship. Islam, Buddhism, Christianity.. the point is that there's a greater being that's the creator of us all, and I think that's what the question entails, whether there's a belief in that 'greater' being/force/call it what you like. If you imply that our existence isn't purely coincidental, then surely there's a creator behind it all - hence, a God.

yes i do blive in god...because i think there must be someone who deal with the every aspect of our life and the power only decide what we should do n what we should't.

Yes I believe in God. It is all upto individuals to what extent and in what way they want to practice. In my opinion it's more of personal experiences rather than following other people teachings or preaching's. But I don't follow all the saying's of my religion or too much of traditions. It does give me a feeling that I am biased but this working for me for the last 2 decades and I am quite satisfied with it.

I'm sure there are forces out there that we don't understand, and that we might now think of as "god", but 1000 years from now we might understand those forces, and think back on our current scientific understanding as being rather primitive.

I'm cynical about a lot of organized religions (I've met some ministers that were great people, but also some that are more interested in politics and power than in the spirit of their religion), but I like the overall message of the main religions (tolerance, humility, etc). I think personal spirituality is a good thing, but it's up to each person what they want to believe, and people should accept other people's thoughts, and not try to push there own way of thinking.

If you mean that in the monotheistic sense then God is most certainly not a universal concept. Over the last 5000 years perhaps you could make the argument that monotheistic beliefs have become more common, but to say it is universal is a bit of a stretch.

Also, for the record, Buddhism is atheistic.

I dont belive in god or something else..but maybe there is something force..
