a friend of mine was offered some money to be married to this girl until she gets her citizenship. now, laws and regulations aside, what do you think about it from a monetary or moral standpoint?

Yea sure, problem is they will want to stick with me and get my money and you would be caught either giving them money or admitting you agreed to an illegal marriage...
Do this if you are poor though.
Thanks to Capnemo, Darander, Linkboy and Subkar for their great invites!
Moral issues set aside, I would never marry if it was for any other reason other than Love.
But then again, look at all those gold-diggers around marry rich people just for money. It happens all the time. As for marrying an illegal immigrant, meh..what are you going to do. I don't really see the difference between that and gold-digging. Your just using a marriage as a means to get to another end.

I will never marry an illegal for money simply because not only is it immoral, but you never know who you are bringing into the country. As shown by the actions of the marriage the person has no qualms about circumventing the law and who knows to what extent, in todays society with all that has been going on we need to be very careful of our borders. Whereas freu0047 brings up a good point in comparing the marriages to those of marriages of opportunity, I do not see no danger to society in a marriage of opportunity as the only person who might get hurt is the individual who has the money and then again some use the money to entice the opposite sex. Whereas if you bring in an illegal into the country who knows what may develop in the long run, ie; might be a terrorist who in turns can bring in more once they have reached citizenship to a major drug running enterprise trying to setup shop here, it is my opinion that the latter marriage is more dangerous than a marriage of opportunity

most illegals who want to marry for money arent trying to do it in order to start a drug trading industry or something along those lines but to make a better life for their family. All it takes is one person in a family to become a citizen of a country for them to be able to bring over their family. Someone who has no actually experience with this might end up believing that people who do this are just trying to get around the law. They wouldnt have to get around the law if the laws werent so discriminitory in terms of immigration. A friend of mine was asked by his parents if he was willing to marry a certain girl for money. The girl was the daughter a wealthy family in china (friend of the family) and she wanted to get out of china and come to usa to study. Immigration laws prohibited her from coming over even though she was an intelligent and rich young woman...
Im not agree that marrying for money is the best thing to do (I doubt I would ever do it) but I understand the reasoning behind it.
To be honest, the first thing that would stop me from doing this is my pride. It doesn't sit right with me that I'm marrying to make some money. Of course, all the issues everyone has said are important, but this is the first thought that comes to my mind.
i would totally do it. i dont view marriage as some sacred union, considering about 40% of them end in divorce, and assuming that they are gonna be some drug smuggling gun toting crime kingpin its downright racist. these people only want to be happy and have a better life for themselves and their children. And there are a lot worse problems in this world than one more foreigner getting into the country...
I'm curious about this, where did you saw it? I can understand reasons like pride, prejudice or morals, but not those ones.
I really doubt that a mundane triviality like citizenship can prevent or is something that will lower the ammount of terrorism, something based on strong convictions and decisions, it is not like the terrorist will give up because of citzenship, he already wants to cause chaos, kill, sometimes even if it means being killed himself, breaking the law is the last of his concearn and crossing a border sounds easy when compared to die or kill dozens.
Almost the same goes to drug running, you can't show yourself openly when doing with drugs, what being a citizen or not will change? Besides being jailed at the USA or deported.

spoon the last time I look at myself in the mirror I was Hispanic so to assume that I am a racist is very naive of you get inform before you assume anything, as you know that old cliche right? Where yes some are trying to get into the country to do the right thing many are not and it is just a fact of life not racism
