Give out some rep guys!

I know all old time members here wish back to the days where we had a "thanks" button instead of "like".

(To newbies: The "thanks" button was there instead of like, and it would ass 1 point to users rep. Very useful for rewarding posts you like without going through the trouble of adding rep points.)

Now, with the like button, it is obviously harder to get rep. Don't get confused by the title. (Eye-opening headlines ftw) I have more than enough rep already. But lately, I have noticed that i receive less and less rep. People hardly give rep for anything! I just gave a rare invite, and got enough likes, but not a single rep point. (Do not go rep me after reading this.) As previously mentioned, I do not really need rep, except for bragging around the big boys here. (I have more rep than some mods :P)

But IMAGINE how hard it is for new members, people that are new to the torrent community, to get rep! I feel bad for them, because we have many newcomers here that I like, but they are stuck at low userclasses because people are too lazy to click three buttons to give some rep. So a little heads up here guys! If you LIKE a post, give the user some rep, even if you don't feel the post deserved your whole rep power, give one or two!

I want rep too :( i do whatever i can to make T-I more useful but small are the number of people that gives rep nowadays. My deepweb thread has more than 10 pages and i received only a few likes on that. And you deserve all the respect that t-i has to offer, major, thanks everything :D

I don't know how it used to be in the past, but i can tell that it is very difficult to become a "rep legend" here for new users ;P

We also used to have negative rep. That was awesome.

Mmm they really should implement that again. I know it took me a few months to become a 55% user even though I'm obviously awesome and should've been there the first month I definitely agree it was hard for the users a few months back, but now it's even harder. Better filtration system though for the users who don't really contribute. They will get stuck at the bottom, but also many of the users that do contribute get overlooked or just get a few likes and never go up the ranks.

yeah that rep via thank system was good I still miss it.. but yeah it will make easy for members to be 55% haha anyways this is really an good idea +1

    Thanks
    Have a nice day :)

You should know that giving away an invite does not guarantee you rep even if it is rare. Nothing guaratees you rep. Obviously for you, you can not hope to recieve the old amount of rep because you were inactive for some time, it is just that new members do not know you. You should increase your activity if you want rep not assume that giving an invite will guarantee you rep. When people feel like repping you they do rep. Yeah, of course, the Like button would increase rep, almost to a point where it is guaranteed.
Even if the Like would add rep there will always be members who will think that like should add more rep. When we had the Thank system some suggested that Thank should add 2 reps. Suggestion to add more rep will never stop. I guess the rep button will always be loved and hated at the same time.

It all depends on the one giving rep/clicking like. To be honest I give rep to at least 5 different people every day (not always my full power, but a fair amount). But I understand what you mean and I think I would be ok with the "thanks" button.

Why was it removed in the first place?

    +1 with what silentninja said.

We shouldn't expect rep at all. Receiving it is a nice, but if you don't get much it means you're not as active these days.

Also rep doesn't really matter too much about moving up ranks here at T-I, 75 reps needed to get to a 55% that's not a lot if you are contributing at T-I helping etc. I always see it as...you get out what you put in.

But on the other side even though it sounds like a good idea, it could also backfire...we look at ranks at T-I as a guide to how much we can trust people, if it was easier to move up ranks...then it would make things harder for everyone too as any member who tried a little could rank up. There will always be risks but I think that at the moment with everything that is going on with piracy etc the current system is quite good.

I've seen people clinbing up the rep bar very fast since the like system went live, sometimes even faster than when we had the thx button.
  11. sora's Avatar
Actually it depends on the one getting the rep as Fractal just said some people get rep very fast while others get them slow or don't even get them even though that's rare or only applies for people here only for invites but I also agree that the thanks system was good as well

Example for people who got up in rep very fast is KevinFlynn and he does deserve it for all the effort he puts in here and he's exalted now

So yeah it may be hard for new members to get rep in here but if they're active enough they will rep up fast and joining the IRC is a great way to make friends and get rep so it's not really a problem for active on T-I

Yeah that bastard (Vegas) suggested that anywhere between 1-5 rep should be added to the "thanks" there was even a poll on it I believe.

But anyways like seedstuff mentioned we used to have neg rep as well and honestly if we brought back the "thanks" or made "like" add rep we should bring neg rep back as well. It's warranted in some cases.
  13. Elephant's Avatar
Very good point here, people should be able to give others a small amount of rep like in the old days, I got about half mine from 30+ "thanks" in single seedbox giveaways, plus 2 reps. Now 2 reps from same giveaway so decrease.

Silentninja and _ASH_, I get that the title is kinda misleading. But please put some effort into reading my post before criticizing me. You tell me I should know it does not guarantee me rep? Okey, thank you, but I DO know, and made it quite obvious. Let me quote myself a little here:
    - Don't get confused by the title. (Eye-opening headlines ftw) I have more than enough rep already.
    - Do not go rep me after reading this.
    -
As previously mentioned, I do not really need rep

So i hope I got that out of the way. For the last time:
This post was not intended for complaining about how little rep I get, or to get me more rep. At all.

So I do agree that this would make it easier to get rep faster, but I am confident staff would adjust userclasse reqs as needed. Also, as some of you say, we should get back negative rep, to make up a little bit for the increase in rep being given.
And the thanks button now would make it more even, because right now, there are exalted with more than 70 rep power. Which would take a user from 0 rep to highest rep requirement. With thanks button and higher rep requirements, it would be more even, and it wouldn't make that much of a difference if you got rep from someone "powerful" or not.

the Staff here is trying to find a mod that will enable the old thank system again and you are not the only one who hates the current like system maybe a solution would be to abadon the like and make the rep icon more visible

But why it should be more even? Under the current system, they have their rep power because they have loads of rep in the first place, also the exalteds tend to excel on rep. You/everyone are/were on the same starting position. No one forbides you/they to achieve greater rep power.
And in terms of recieved rep, it will never be even. Some members will recieve more rep no matter what system is used.

While the title is perhaps misplaced the point being made is new members aren't getting enough rep as far as I can see. I really don't think majornil is trying to get more rep power or rep for himself.

I think the reputation system is fine, but would like to see the likes reverted back to thanks. I think the old system was better.
  19. Trevor's Avatar
I agree we should get the old thanks back. It would definitely help the new members. I noticed staff is aware of the problem and is looking into all the different options.
I, for one, use the rep button very frequently. I often browse through the giveaway forums to give good GA's some rep; after all, giveways are the engine this forum runs on. I honestly think new members should be linked to the rep tutorial in the help section more often. It has great tips and I suspect many newbies haven't read it or don't even know there's such a tut. So to all the members who like to put useful links in their sigs, put this one in as well: http://www.torrent-invites.com/site-...community.html

BTW I take it you're referring to me here as one of those exalteds you're talking about? Let me tell you, I've earned every rep point I received. Rep doesn't just happen to you by chance, like you seem to suggest, just as success in life doesn't happen to you by chance (rare exceptions aside). You have to earn it, work for it, be generous, kind, sociable, etc.etc. In short: you need to get yourself noticed somehow, make yourself helpful and available, and there are lots of ways to do that. Reason why I'd love to see new members read the rep tutorial more.
But like SilentNinja said, no matter what system is used, there will always be people who receive more rep than others, because they work harder, post more, do bigger giveaways, post better and more interesting things, fill requests, put more thought in their posts than others, and because people just happen to appreciate their posts, work, person... more. Simple as.
But like I said in my other comment, I'd still like to see things go back to the way we had it before, with thanks = 1rep and the rep button if you want to give some extra rep. Most people just tend to be lazy, so if a thanks automatically gives 1rep point that certainly helps the new members who try to make some progress.
