Is this a giveaway? it looks more like a memorial.

I've noticed a number of times whilst looking for a particular invite that some giveaway threads seem to offer a lot more than they can actually deliver. A bit like A.J.Burnett.

You know the ones I'm talking about. The thread title is something like...

" 2xGFT | 4xfux0r | 3xWaffles | 2xMMA | 3xIPT | unlimitedxDemonoid"

... but when you get into the thread the first post tells you...

[0/2] GFT
[0/4] fux0r
[1/3] Waffles
[0/2] MMA
[2/3] IPT
[unlimited] Demonoid

...which is a bit of a tease to say the least.

Okay, so maybe it's not normally as bad as that but you get the idea and chances are that at some point you've run across it and cursed the extra 20 seconds, 2 mouse clicks, and small fiddle on the scroll wheel that it's taken you to find out that this wasn't actually the thread you needed to be in. Is it a small annoyance? Yes. But so is a papercut. And the rarer the invite you're looking for the more papercuts you're gonna get.

The worst thing about it is that it's so easy to solve, and it's a solution that benefits everybody. Just edit the giveaway title. If you're not sure how to do it then let me direct you to this post from IMAGINE that explains it very simply (if I could work it out it must be simple).

The great thing about it is that it benefits everyone. People looking for an invite don't have to constantly look through threads that don't have what they want, and those offering invites don't have to put with those who are seemingly incapable of reading the first post in a thread and just apply for an invite whether you have any left or not. Everyone's a winner. Except A.J. Burnett.

Now, I'm sure in some cases people already know how to do this but quite like keeping a record in the thread of the invites they've given away. It's something to be proud of and shows what you've given to the community. To those people I can only say this: You are right to be proud of the invites that you have given away, and it's good for other people to see the contribution you've made. And that is why under your post count there is a record of your iGivers. Be proud of that number and let your thread move on.

You know what? I liked this blog, even though I'm somewhat guilty of this myself.

There is not much I can add. This happens and will continue to happen.
I can only think of 2 reasons:

    #1:
In many trackers people get invites available monthly, editing the GA every month with the new invites, without changing the title.

    #2 (the usual one :P)
People want to be seen, they want others to take a look at their giveaways, so they keep the title of the original GA, in a way to show the invites they have given :) no sin in that, and you won't find many drastic situations like the one in your example.

My best advice is: live with it

    But still, nice rant.

The monthly invite is a fair enough reason to do it but I didn't want reasonable arguments getting in the way of my rant

You say tomato, I say tomato... just realised that doesn't really work when it's written down.

Think I will start adding "5x FTN" and "unlimited HDb" to all my titles, just to grab some bites. :)

    Nice blog post, valid points.

I think it's fairly obvious we should just focus on the core of the problem; KevinFlynn. He admitted he was guilty so obviously we should throw all the blame on him. He's a mod for gods sake. He should be setting an example for the rest of the community. Shame on you KF for conditioning me to do the same in my giveaways smh it's all your fault.

lol I'm pretty sure you understood my comment. Anyway, it is ok to start a GA and then run out of invites. It is not ok to have 0 invites to start with. Actually I've recently edited someone's giveaway for this reason. I'll link it here when I get home.

    Edit: Here it is.

lol and he was banned already. I think you just give people bad luck. Please don't edit my threads

I see a banned KITE Coming soon in the near future. :P

My problem is actually the opposite of this blog, I get people that request an invite in my GA, then I go spend 25,000 points to buy one (instead of waiting until they're 10,000 when donations are 100%), and then they never reply after I tell them to send me an email.

    AGREED^^^^^^

On topic now, we are all guilty of this, some more than others I'm sure. And I'm sure a lot of us have had the same rant but as pointed out it happens and will continue to do so.

But look at it this way sure we have these "issues" however when I first joined (nearly two years ago) I unlike you or any of the newer generation was not as fortunate when this issue occured. What I mean is this, back then a lot of the trackers we see frequently now were scarce. (Waffles, RevTT, GFT to name a few, hell a lot of these are in the 10% something you never seen back when I first joined here)

So when a tracker appeared and several of us wanted it we were screwed when we came too late and seen this issue. Nowadays you are almost never without a selection of users who offer a good majority of invites to most trackers.

So sure you will come across these threads but it's not like there isn't more available in other threads or that there won't be more available in a short time.

And in the mean time when you come across these threads just do what we all do; say "damn you KevinFlynn it's your FAULT!"

I was pulling my hair out looking for that function. The original post on how to do it should be stickied.
