Those images are too big, gblaze.

Good device though. The announcement for the Note 2 might be in September, so I can't wait for that presentation. Nice blog.

    Nicely done!
    However some small tips.
Get cyanmod if you can, they have the best roms.
Use titanium backup, after wiping out all my data in a failed flash I learned fast as I had to load up data from 2 months prior (a lifetime away)
Clockworkmod (cwm) is better than odin, no computer required and better opinions available.
Good luck with it and welcome to the modders club

Drauka put me on to the AOKP rom, which is Cyanogen on Roids. As soon as I've seen the pics, I was sold.
Titanium Backup and Nandroid are your BFF's. It should come as second nature when flashing a Rom. I've had nightmare situations before where I'll disregard that rule and rom ahead, and that's the end of that. Never again.
Team Win Recovery/CM is better than CWM, so is Amon-Ra.

I had a painful experience switching from Gingerbread to ICS on my Note too.

All stock Samsung ICS roms have a bug that can brick the phone if you flash them. A brick that can potentially "kill" the phone.

I already had a rooted GB (gingerbread) rom with AbyssNote kernel.

    My route was :

1- Wiping data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache, Flashing RocketRom V7 via CWM (clockworkmod)

RESULT : Bootloop, for a moment the phone wasn't even starting when pressing power

2 - Booting in download mode (volume down + home + power) and re-flashing the AbyssNote kernel via the heimdall suite, and this dreaded yellow triangle appeared at boot to indicate that i flashed my note with a non-approved binary, shit.

3 - Ultimately, i said fuck to samsung ICS based roms and went CyanogenMod 9 RC1 that was just released.

4 - Everything went well. I was meeting with Cyanogen again. I left it when i switched from my previous Android phone to the Note.

    - I downloaded the useful "Triangle Away" apk from Chainfire (ICS only). It's an app which is able to remove the yellow triangle. It reports how many times you flashed a custom (non approved) binary and then you can purely reset the counter. I made sure the number of flashs reported by the app matched the counter that you can see when booting in download mode. It can be dangerous to use this app so it's better to really make sure everything is accurate.

6 - Well the point 6 is when i enjoy the rom and rape the play store via wifi. No real bugs. Wifi works right, localization too. Only the USB mass storage transfer mode is not really ready yet (it uses MTP protocol for transfers by default).

Cyanogen has many cool features and most importantly : it is smooth, and combined with Nova/Apex launcher, it's awesome. Samsung Gingerbread roms always suffered from lag, which is hard to believe since the Note is a dual core 1.4 GHz smartphone.
