Bonuses, do you really need that much?

Hello T-I it is I the Enigmatic One with my first and probably last blog post

Let's see where to begin. I've been a memebr here for almost 18 months now and a lot can agree with me that I was a major player on this site for quite some time.

I currently have over 300 iGivers (mainly from bonuses), I'm on the HoF list, I've done some giveaways that blew a lot of people away lol. However at some point this past Janurary I walked away from T-I with the intentions of ever returning, however after 7+ months passed by and I came back with the intentions of not being super active like I once was, but active enough to let others who knew me back then that I was back and to get familiar with the new big players we have here now.

Now back then it was alll about helping the site, being a friend to many and an enemy to few. I got into an obsession which was iGivers. I wanted more than anything to get that almighty iGiver and be noticed as one of the great givers here. And like most people of that time I started to offer more and more bonuses and even added that those who received from me previously would not be allowed to receive from me again bonus wise.

However this was a double edge sword. It wasn't that I didn't want to help those whom I helped before but more because I didn't see a reason for why I should help someone out time and time again as it was apparent to me they was not goig to help themselves.

This irritated me greatly because the bonus system is set up for the purpose of helping one another, however at some point it became an eyesore to me, or it disgusted me to offer any bonuses because I would see the same people applying for my bonuses on top of every other bonus being offer for whichever tracker they applied with through me.

Sadly I am seeing that it was not just a trend that would fade away but in act it's like a game. Time and time again I am seeing the same users asking in every thread for a bonus to any tracker they have. In some cases I'm seeing 5-10 requests for one tracker per user.

Now of course there is no rule against this and it's up to the giver to decide whom they give them out too, however am I the onlly one that gets irritated over this?

Lets take an example here, Animebytes. You can take a bonus of 2,000 yen and turn it into 2GBs of upload. Yeah it's not a lot of course but it's 2GBs you didn't have to work hard to get yourself. Animebytes is similar to a lot of trackers : The larger the file + the longer you seed = more bonus points.

AB is full of free leech items, everything that is 1080p, DVD5, and DVD9 is, has, and always will be free leech on there. Some are huge in file size while others are not so bad file size wise. Any one can take a few free leech files and seed them 24/7 on a home connection and build a lot of bonus points in a relatively short time (week or two).

Now that system is pretty simple in my opinion, however there are some that are simplier such as you get XXX points per hour, per torrent regardless of size. One such site is JPopsuki. I've seeded 300+ torrents all no bigger than 100MBs for weeks on end and built thousands upon thousands of bonus points there.

So here is the thing, with just those examples do you really need a lot of bonuses from us givers on T-I?

I don't expect people to stop hoarding bonuses and helping themselves for a change, nor am I looking down on those who do hoard them, I'm just wanting to know why they do it.

Do you do it?

If so why?

Do you ever think "Well I don't need these points and I'm sure others are in serious need of them so...... maybe I should leave them for those users"?

Do you think "Screw it I'm looking out for number one, who cares if I have 100s of GBs in buffer because of the kind people on T-I freely offering them to me, it's those who need them fault for not getting to the thread before me"

This is just something I've always wondered about and I would like some input on this. Oh and please if you do this don't waste my time by trying to justify the actions by saying "I have a piss poor home connection" or "I can't afford a seed box."

Clearly with the examples I laid out it doesn't matter if you have a piss poor home conneciton or if you can't afford a seed box, all that matters is that you are connectable and seed 24/7 to build the points you need to buy the GBs in upload so you can get the files you want.

Now that probably makes me sound like an asshole but oh well it's true to how I feel about this and I'm not going to beat around the bush. Thanks for reading

I agree with what you have said. I've seen a few people do that and yes it does get irritating. I tend to ignore it and think of something else.

I remember a few months ago when I first joined a asked for a few bonuses, but it was more to do with me being a noob and worrying about ratio's, later on I realised keeping a decent ratio wasn't as bad as once thought.

Also I think the people that do this will most likely not read this post and probably don't participate in any other areas apart from Area 51, kind of selfish in a way (not putting everyone under the same label by the way) but oh well...what can we do hey! lol

Nice post, and I agree...that probably makes us both sound like asshole's lol!!

can i join the assholes gang?

i'm in the same boat as you guys (can't see me? well, look around!!!).
knowing how easy it is to earn bonus points on some of the trackers makes me think these "requesters" are either idiots or they hand out those points on other forums. of course there are some logical reasonings that could explain their frequent need for points - like a shitty connection (speeds or bandwidth limits) and having a "life". i know i don't keep my computer on for days.

Also, some of them just want to download. uploading is a new and tedious concept to them...

Agreed and we all have a "life" of course. However a poor connection isn't much of an excuse in my opinion on the majority of trackers that offer bonus points that can be used for upload. I'm sure there are a few trackers that don't make it as easy with having some torrents set for free leech like they do on IPT and AB amongst others.

Now for places like BG and UG I can understand the whole "I've got a piss poor home connection and i can not afford a seed box" remark. Those sites are definitely harder to survive on with out a box or the kindness of our community offering upload.

I run my PC 24/7 and yes I understand not everyone does, however even if you ran your PC 8-10 hours a day then why not go ahead and fire up your bit torrent client and earn the bonus points on which ever trackers while doing your online thing be it here or any other site. I mean even that amount of time can build some serious points if you are seeding a lot of torrents.

yo yo yo, got candies ??

ye, you`re an ol` player I give you that, but you`re too upset for somethin` that was a long time ago.

Anyway another "asshole" down here :XD

that`s kinda the reason why I "Retired" myself from GA`s.

    yo yo yo.

that is why I have never given any bonuses here on TI as I also get irritated by the fact that it is always the same people over and over asking for bonuses to the same tracker from different members or for different trackers from the same member, same difference in my opinion

Upset? Nah. Irritated? Yeah a bit and this is not something that was just a long time ago it's still goes on today as much as it did back then lol. Hence the reason for making this blog I want to see who all agrees and disagrees I figured it would be a good conversation piece for myself

I guess to me it seems like us old players aren't truly needed theses days giveaway wise (except for the same old people time and time again getting huge buffers off of us lol), however it's still nice to be able to help those in need. Guess I'll have to be "Retired" along side you and you know that means I'll have more time to harass you

I completely agree with you guys.
I registered a few days back on this site ( One week or so ), but also saw that most of the requesters are always the same people.
    Why they do that???
Good question. Slow connection??? Impossible!! When i see the speedtest from people on T-I, i say to myself: Damn!! I'm the only one with such a slow connection.
But i keep a good Ratio on all my trackers. Was just scared on TL but managed to keep a good Ratio without Bonuses from others.

Before i registered on T-I, readed the rules and understood how this community works, i was a so called Hit and Runner on Torrent trackers.
After i talked with few of the members on IRC, i also recognized that i should talk to the staff of the trackers i was before and told them that i was sorry for being such an asshole. They gived me a second chance and now, everything is greate between me and them.

    My personal opinion is:
People who is always requesting, they are doing that because:
    - They are Hit and Runners (but they forgot that some trackers are asking for a ratio for each download)
    - They are asking Bonuses to share it with others or to create their own Bonuses thread (had thought about that also :p )

    For me a sharing is:
    - Help people if you can
    - Share what you know or what you have that you don't really need
    - If something is shared that you already have.... give others the oportunity to get it also

    What should i say more.....
If someone is requedting to much, ignore him and give to others.

But there will always be people that abuses and no one can change that. You are the only one that can decide to who you want to give Bonuses or Invites.
    Choose wisely ;)

LOL Buckyshort well said. And I agree for the most part, however the "obsession" is not really an obsession for me these days. I do genuinely want to help others on here, I don't have too but I do so. Be it internet or real life though my kindness only streches so far and I am sure others would agree. Originally it was about hitting 100 iGivers and that's when we all get truly hooked

My main reason for this is not to say "Hey lets all just stop doing what we are doing and let people fend for themselves" but instead it's more like "Hey look we all have lives, we give up our time to help others on here, but enough is enough. Try giving up your time and helping yourselves and others for a change."

Truthfully I could care less for iGivers, honestly during my absent I handed out 27 invites total to different places compared to what I gave here. Whether or not I give another invite here or anywhere doesn't concern me, however like here I do offer them because not everyone has the palces I have and vice versa.

I don't know maybe my motivation behind this is that internet or not it's kind of disappointing to see that things haven't changed 7+ months later since i last gave anything away here. Still waiting to see comments from these individuals though.........

Enough with the language and enough with the bashing of the system, nobody is forcing you to give to the same person twice.

This is really simple - you don't like the system come up with an alternative as for helping others, yes I do think that most of the people here would like to think that they are helping when they are bailing someone out.

This discussion is over - Thread closed.

I haven't been lucky enough to catch an opening to get into bitGamer, but as for Underground-Gamer, they are actually very generous and friendly. Not only are there featured torrents and freeleeches, special golden (free) weekends and the like, but many established members will also donate GigaBytes of ratio credit to newbies who are polite, ask nicely and demonstrate that they are making an honest effort. You even get ratio credit for clicking "Save the World" buttons, which are links to the sponsors of the Greater Good Network, who will pay their advertising cents to stop hunger in Africa, save the rainforest and so on. Moreover, the moderators do not have as lose a trigger finger as on many other fora/trackers when somebody criticizes them and suggestions are allowed.

Want to see the opposite in nearly all aspects and a site that's really hard to survive on? Try ElbitZ.
