This blog was written out of boredom. It's intent is purely humorstic, and far from academic. I hope you find it entertaining. Some members are deemed to have been omitted; it's done, not on purpose, rather due to a lack of creativity on my part. I hope that you're not offended (I know I was, after my second read-through..)

1. The Mayfly

The Mayfly, is a member who found the site while googling for invites to what-ever tracker, saw the recently-added giveaways, disappointedly realized that he had to sign-up (and then actually fill out a form), to be able to get his long desired invite. And then, after barely leaving an iGiver (haha, lets be realistic) - without leaving an iGiver - The Mayfly flockers away into Oblivion, living happily ever after, less than 24 hours after joining the TI community.

2. The Legend

A user which has seemingly been a part of the community since Ages long lost. Rep count is either sky high, or even disabled. When The Legend responds to Suggestions, while the opinions prior to the Speech of The Legend may have been flickering, voiced opinions following, which usually outnumber those prior by a factor of 10, are all in concordance with the wishes of The Legend. The listed friends of The Legend often include Exalted users with nicks that you can not even pronounce.

3. The Cool K1d

The Cool K1d often - or always - has a nick with numbers in it. You can almost say that it's the defining factor of The Cool K1d. They post funny things; "Fun" defined as anything which can be found on 9gag.

4. The Straight Guy
He is the guy who always has wise, and presumably supreme knowledge-based, posts. His opinions are always well-thought-of, and his argumentation is spotless. Nobody has ever anything bad to say about The Straight Guy.

5. The Enthusiast
The Enthusiast LOVES TI, it's community, it's amazing users, the amazing mod staff, and he/she is super-fantasticly-asticly ecstatic over being having been invited to all the trackers which he/she longed to join, seemingly since the beginning of time as we know it. May be long-lived Mayflies, or may be destined to go out as The Hall-of-Famer.

6. The Silent One
Nobody notices The Silent One. He sits in the Dark, he is never-ever above 30%, and has about 50-100, but never more than 150 posts. The only members who have ever been in contact with The Silent One are those that now are on FTN/Pedro's/HDBits, etc. Yes, it's true, because The Silent One is the guy who never draws attention to himself, but nonetheless is on all the highly-sought-after trackers (including in possession of invite privileges). You'll never spot him, but if you're a Straight Guy, or maybe an Enthusiast, you might meet him someday.

7. The Great Cheater
Similar to the Straight Guy/The Enthusiast, or sometimes even The Legend. Only differences is that when he or she is not browsing TI, he/she is within the dark places, namely TorrentInvites.org, selling invites.

8. The Lousy Cheater

Similar to The Cool K1d. Like the The Greater Cheater, The Lousy Cheater, also hangs out in the dark places, but other than that they are completely different. He, yes - The Lousy Cheater is usually of the male sex, uses the same nickname on every site that he's on; he even uses the same avatar; he hosts his ratioproofs on http://imageupload.torrentinvites.org ; and if someone offers to giveaway an invite to some rare tracker - you can bet that he's going to PM them asking to trade.

9. The Hall-of-Famer
Long-lost, but never forgotten members. Their actions and contributions to the community made it what it is today. They were the first ones to freely give away invites to awesome trackers back in the day. Their retirement from TI-staff all revealed their Exalted tags. Like The Legends they have rep counts and post counts in the bazillions.

10. The Clown
They are the ones that try their hardest to brighten everyones days. 90% of their posts are in the Off-Topic section, and the 10% who aren't, should have been there.

Very interesting definitions of the different TI members, well...this is a reality everywhere..internet forums, society groups, private clubs, family etc..each of them in variable angles, but at the end with the same behave and results. This is simply a classification of human being.

Thank you, SiniuS. Yes, human beings are different but still highly predictable and similiar; the different roles which a person could play within a community are more or less the same; largely independent of the type of community. If we are to discuss Personality and it's disorders; and further on Personality psychology and Behavioral science, then this is definitely the wrong fora.

My blog post was not ment as an academic publication of the results from a long-lasting study of the TI community, it was ment as an humoristic relief. If it's not read as so, then I am a bit surprised, but still largely ambivalent.

Funny blog sure, But two things...

    #7 The Great Cheater...

I cant say ive ever thought of any cheater as great, no matter how many times they have cheated and got away with it. I would refer to them as: "The P.o.s. Scumbag Cheater". And never refer to them as great. They sell & cheat others and sell invites for Chump Change, There Bums.

    &

    #9
judging by the order of your blog it looks like the "better" ppl are at the top of the list (#1-4) So i am confused why #9 "The Hall Of Famer" would have been placed in between "The Losey Cheater" & The Clown... Reading threw the list i would have placed the hall off famer much higher up with the legend.

    But cheers for the read...

Haha, yeah, actually I numbered them so that I'd remember to stop at 10, since the first thing that I wrote was the title. Expect for the Great and the Lousy cheater all the types of members which I described contribute to the community somehow, at least the way I see it; even the Mayfly by popping the iGiver-cherry for some. But I'm glad if you see it differently, otherwise it would all be oh-so-boring. And a Great cheater, is someone who's great at cheating, and not at all a member of Great benefit to the community. But still, thanks for reading, and I truly appreciate you typing out your views on the post! :)

Funny post Duv ;) You forgot one peculiar, but funny type of user though, which we see frequently on TI, and it's what I would call the "kamikaze pilot". It's the kind of member who manages to get himself banned straight away, right from the first or second action on this forum. Like for instance the guy who posts in the starting members forum, offering accounts, or the guy who wants to boast in his introduction with several invites to trade. There are many more examples of this type of kamikaze user and they all seem to be some weird mix of stupidity, carelessness, fatality, and tragedy.

Haha, yeah. Good one, Trevor. Those are pretty classic, and of course sad. Mayflies with a death-, or rather ban-wish. :P

Thanks for the blog post it was a fun read and an interesting satirical perspective on the community. As your discussion with Sinus stated in the comments, while not academic it undoubtedly spotlights lots of human archetypes.
