How to get Free Apps for Jailbroken iPhones using Appcake

First you will need a jailbroken iPhone, each OS version is broken using a different program, so you'll have to search around to figure out how to jailbreak yours. After you jailbreak the phone you will have a new app called cydia (pictured below) touch this app to begin this tutorial.



Once cydia loads up you'll want to press the manage tab in the lower portion of the screen, this will lead you to three different options: Packages, Sources, and Storage. The one you want to press is sources, which will allow you to add sources you find from the web and increase the number of files available to download in cydia.



This next screen will list all of the sources your phone currently has stored in Cydia, and it will most likely differ from mine in some way (that is ok, but feel free to add any of the sources you see in my screenshot). Click the Edit button in the upper right corner and the screen will change slightly



In edit mode Cydia allows you to Delete the current Sources you have added, and also add new ones. We'll be using the add feature, so press that button in the upper left corner of your screen.



Now you'll be given a dialog box that prompts you to "Enter Cydia/APT URL" this is where the full URL for that Repo/Source is entered, and it must be identical to it's listing online or it will not work properly. We're going to enter the source for Appcake, which is: http://cydia.iphonecake.com



Once you press add, it should now appear in the list of sources, make sure that source looks like the one underlined in this screenshot, so you know you entered the URL correctly. After that Press the Iphonecake source to be taken to it's contents.



Now we're going to add the things that make magic happen. First the uppermost listing is for an app called AppCake+ press that and install it using the button in the upper right hand corner of the screen, let the CMD prompt style installer do it's thing and press the button at the bottom when it completes (It may say Reboot, Respring, or Return to Cydia, just press it no matter what it says). If you get any errors during this install, simply retry the previous steps to isntall appcake. You will know it was successful when there is a green check next to that listing as seen below.



Additionally add the appropriate version of AppSync for your iOS, in my case this is iOS 4.1. This will allow you to download apps via the appcake website on your computer, and sync them using iTunes. CracknShare is a tool you can also download, which will automatically crack files you've already payed for and allow you to upload them for other people!



Now that you've installed everything you can use the AppCake+ icon that should appear on your phone to begin downloading apps, the icon looks something like the one in the screenshot below.
