I've decided to brighten it up and give it some depth and life.... and indulge in a fantastic journey reading and re discovering one of my favourite artists:
Salvador Dalí (May 11, 1904 – January 23, 1989), a.k.a. Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech.
Prominent Spanish surrealist painter/ artist .... thought I would share a snippet of this moment in time of this inspirational life. I hope you enjoy.....

Dalí was best known for the bizarre and striking images in his surrealist art.
His painting abilities have often been told as being reflections and influenced by the masters of Renaissance .... His work didn't just include painting he was also into photography, film, charcoal, and sculpture, all were amusing and avant garde for their time... 1920's.

One of my most favourite paintings and one I would so love to have hanging on one of my walls at home is:
Metamorphosis of Narcissus (1937)
According to Greek mythology. Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection in a pool. Unable to embrace the watery image, he pined away, and the gods immortalized him as a flower.
Narcissus,
in his immobility,
absorbed by his reflection with the digestive slowness of carnivorous plants,
becomes invisible.
There remains of him only the hallucinatingly white oval of his head,
his head again more tender,
his head, chrysalis of hidden biological designs,
his head held up by the tips of the water's fingers,
at the tips of the fingers
of the insensate hand,
of the terrible hand,
of the mortal hand
of his own reflection.
When that head slits
when that head splits
when that head bursts,
it will be the flower,
the new Narcissus,

Yesterday i was looking for a tutorial removed, i searched the e-learning trackers i was a part of and couldnt find anything and yes i searched bitme too. Finally i decided maybe i will find it on some public trackers. I fired up google on my browser, entered the search string and hit enter. And there it was, the search results showed up a hit on rutracker, i was pleasently surprised. I knew rutracker had some nice content but this really impressed me. I searched on rutracker some more and was greeted with a lot of e learning content not present on the prestigious private trackers.

Rutracker is really indeed a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. I see people dying for invites to these trackers when rutracker sits there for all with its wealth of torrents waiting to be downloaded. I recall when i was new to Waffles i had a really hard time building a ratio, i then bit the bullet and got a seedbox, read tutorials. One thing the tutorials mentioned was to fulfill the requests. I forgot to mention when i was not a member of waffles and demonoid shut down i was in need of a music tracker i had asked in the forums for some help and the amazing people at TI showed me rutracker. Now when i got into waffles i thought all would be good but i soon realised even after getting into waffles i cannot download all that i wanted for the fear of a bad ratio. I was a good member seeded my torrents 24/7 but there were simply no leechers, i got really frustrated. Then everything changed, i read that fulfilling requests could significantly boost my ratio and so i set on it. And behold i could find so many of the requested torrents on rutracker, i then got a seedbox downloaded these from rutracker and built a healthy buffer on waflles.

Soon i realized why was i doing all this in the end? All the music i needed was there on rutracker that in too in rips at par with quality on waffles and all this with no worries of a bad ratio. I stopped using waffles since then, i do have my account still there but i dont download much from there anymore. Similar thing with Bitme and other e learning trackers everything i needed was there on rutracker. But ofcourse there is a flaw.

The interface of rutracker isnt exactly user friendly and it being in russian further aggravates the problem. But google translate alleviates the problem to a large extent but again it takes a while to get used to it. There are some tutorials here on TI explaining how to go about on rutracker. Also the tracker is almost like a public tracker so there is always the same risk as with public trackers. So far i am able to use rutracker without any problems.

So i hope this post helps the countless people trying to get into good trackers but being denied an invite as they are new, or do not have a seedbox or any other reason here is your chance to enjoy content similar to those offered by the best trackers out there without worries.

PS:Though ratio doesnt matter there but be good and seed as long as you can ;)

DRM - The Solution That Serves No One.

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is often promoted as the only viable way that the <Insert name of digital industry here> can do business on the...

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is often promoted as the only viable way that the <Insert name of digital industry here> can do business on the internet without being brought to its knees by piracy. Whether we are talking about a games console, software house, movie studio or record company, the accepted wisdom seems to be that DRM is the only solution.

In my view, DRM is a model that helps no one. In fact, I believe that it damages almost every party.

The content creator is told that they can be assured that they will be paid for every copy. The word "impossible" comes up a lot when people are talking about breaking DRM. And we know just how much water that argument holds, right? And the creator pays for the privilege of having their content managed and it isn't peanuts.

The consumer gets a licensed copy of something they think they are buying. But time and time again, we see that there are problems with changing hardware platform. Stories abound of "Replaced your PC, repurchase your software" with MS being the most recent culprit if you buy Office. Furthermore, you aren't free to use the product as you wish. Apples iTunes is relatively generous in allowing you to register up to five devices but not all suppliers are so flexible.

The distributor is the one that gets the benefit on the simplest level as once people start to buy content from a particular ecosystem (or "walled garden" such as iTunes, Google Play or NetFlix) then they generally continue to buy there. The repeat business is a decent revenue stream. But it isn't all rosy even for these guys. Technology marches relentlessy forwards and there is always new hardware/software to code for. And then we have support. And that really is the elephant in the room for the distributor as they have to get people access to this DRM-enabled content both on their new shiny smart-glasses as well as through their aged XP machine or PS2.

But where it all comes unstuck is when a distributor goes bust or, even worse, gets bought out. Why worse? Well, when a firm goes bust, they usually stop enforcing the DRM and you at least get to keep the content on whatever platform you last viewed it on. At least for a number of uses until it realises that the licensing servers can't be contacted. Also, as the company goes through its death throes, there is often a small group of conscientious individuals who will work really hard to ensure people keep access to their content.

But an acquisition is far more dangerous. Let's talk about a specific example: Acetrax.

Acetrax began life in 2005 as a TV streaming service for "smart" television sets. They branched out into streaming movies and adopted HD content fairly early. About a year ago, they were bought by Sky and warning bells began to ring for me when Sky characterised the purchase as being motivated by a desire for the Acetrax expertise in streaming technologies.

Sure enough, with the rise-and-rise of LoveFilm and Netflix, Sky is now going to axe the Acetrax brand. And if you're not both technical and aware of what's going on, you will shortly be losing access to all content from the firm.

What follows is an abstract from an article posted on the excellent tech news site The Register by Tony Smith:

After that, owners of Windows PCs can download their films. Mac users can forget it, as can anyone hoping to re-download HD films. Even on Windows, it’s standard definition only from that point.

Movies that users have previously downloaded will cease to play from that date, so re-downloading films is mandatory if you want to continue to be able to watch them. Re-downloaded films will be tied solely to the machine on which they’re first played. Because they use Microsoft’s Windows Media Player DRM, the films can’t be transferred to any platform that doesn’t support the copy-protection technology.

“You may only retain a copy of the content on the personal computer on which you make the original download. Resetting the factory settings on your PC will also result in removal of the license which can then not be retrieved,” the company warned.

Acetrax said anyone who has purchased HD movies or any kind of film on a Mac computer, an iOS or Android device, or a smart TV can enter their request into a web page the company has put up for the purpose. Refunds will only be made to PayPal or ClickandBuy accounts, Acetrax warned.

Those who are able to download their films will need to do so promptly once the 21st comes round. It’s not clear how long Acetrax will make the films available for download after 21 June. Anyone with an outstanding account balance has until 20 June to use it up, or request a refund. Credit vouchers, likewise.

So you buy a "permanent" license for the content but it turns out that, unless you know what you're about and don't happen to be, say, on holiday for the next few weeks, you will lose the ability to use what you paid for.

I know that Microsoft are mentioned a few times in this post but I'm not signling them out particularly. They are one player amongst many, all doing the same thing. And every time a company goes the way of Acetrax, the affected customers lose their confidence in digital media. And guess what? They tell all their friends.

DRM is currently the only (commercialised) game in town but it is failing everybody. And badly.

Surely, there has to be a better way?

I was reading this repost...

I was reading this repost by brightsm and it made me get my blogging head on. Sorry...

I find it more than a little ironic that RIAA expend so much energy making it look like Google (and the other search engines) are the problem here.

Yeah, so given the forum demographic here it's inevitable that most of us are going to disagree with RIAA and their heavy-handed, blinkered policies. Even so, they had the opportunity to turn the internet into a viable route to market that they could monetise. And instead, they chose to ignore the "digital distribution situation" to concentrate on existing channels (retail, radio, live performances etc). Right until it really began to eat into their sales from those established channels.

I remember endless editorials in the 90s with IT pundits unable to understand (then as now) why the hell the music industry as a whole failed to embrace the web as a distribution environment. I know there's a ton of "logic" to their decision but it almost all boils down to not having total control over the distribution.

So here we are more than 20 years on with RIAA blaming everyone but themselves for allowing a culture of unlicensed distribution to become established. It's our fault for not submitting ourselves to the cray locked down DRMs of yesteryear. It's the ISPs fault for supporting net neutrality. It's the search engines fault for actually indexing the web. It's even the courts fault for awarding large damages in the few infringement cases that have been through the US legal system.

Sure there have been some ill advised legal steps on the other side of the fence. Jammie Thomas ($10k per song) and Joel Tenenbum ($20k per song) sprimg immediately to mind. The later was, of course, so idiotically bungled by Harvard Law School's Charles Nesson who seemed determined to concentrate only on the unwinnable aspects of the case that the jury ended up awarding triple the damages that the RIAA had initially asked for.

For now, though, I'll leave you with this absolute gem of a piece from a TED session. Watch it. You'll thank me. Really.

...Anyways, I want to talk about what the last few months had in store for me. In February I went looking for a job, I found one at a Cell phone store / Electronics repair shop. So far it's been great and a couple weeks ago I offered the owners that I will pay for the first 3 months of rent and the contractor to do renovations (My dads boss owed me a favor and agreed to forgo the labour costs of hiring his company for the renovations) for 30% ownership of a new southside location. Estimated this will be a 20 large investment, but with an expected 150% - 200% return within the first year (hopefully, But we have agreed if everything goes south, they will reimburse the rent)

And I also have been invited to private builders space by a very good friend of mine. We met in september when my NAIT (in partnership with my highschool) assigned him as my mentor for Electrical Engineering. So the plan is to bring all of our equipment and tools to a undecided location (Probably a very nice, modern looking 3000 square foot 2 level office building for $1500 a month. Its in a inconvenient location though, and most of us are just university students without transportation (Except me)).

So besides those ventures, I'm also tasked with setting up my shops booth at an exhibition here in edmonton (K-Days, which will get much needed publicity for us, and an opportunity to offer our servicers to literally thousands of attendees). And of course I still have my finals to study for.

Blogging.

Sharing your personal things, thoughts, experiences with the greater audience.
Either good things or bad things, that's really up to the author, he or she is the only one who decides what they want to share with the world.

Other than on an actual forum, blogs shouldn't have rules on subjects, or restrictions in replies (keeping in mind that nor the subject or content is offensive in any way). It's a way of saying your stories or feelings that don't belong on topic-related forums. There's also no difference in user level, since you post your personals outside of a forum, as a person.

You also decide in which tone it is put. You can make it funny, give your personal point of view on serious matters, even take a shot at people you have an issue with, as long as you keep it civilized. Naming people, or using offensive language is still not done, but many ways are around that to make some point you would like to share.

However blogs come with some downsides too. If you choose to share your personal thoughts, be aware of people reacting to it as well. Otherwise it's pointless to make some blog. And just as you are showing your point of view, others might have theirs too, and they are not always the same as yours. As long as everyone is being polite there really is no problem, in fact that's just the point of it: sharing things and discussing them.

I might have a wrong opinion ofcourse on my views on blogging, but that's why it's here...

I joined the squad my junior year of high school, not out of any particular love for gymnastics, but out of sheer desperation to fit in. I was coming into a new school, in a new town where I didn't know a soul and the answer to my social problems seemed to sit right on the shelf of the shoe store wall. I bought those bright white cheerleading shoes and history changed.

I was a high school cheerleader. From a beret wearing, poetry writing art school protege to a short-skirt wearing, pompom waving cheerleading fool in a few short months.

Yeah, I sold out.

The captain of the squad could've starred on Heathers. Well, except her name was Alison. But you get the idea. A total prom queen slut. The kind of person that goes down in [insert your high school name here] history as the biggest bitch you've ever met.

Alison and I hated each other on sight. I dated her ex-boyfriend. She put glue in my cheerleading sneakers. Yes, you read that right. She glued my sneakers to my feet. I was not a happy camper that night when I went to take my socks off. This rivalry continued all the way through the rest of school until graduation. I went off to university and she went to nursing school.

That should have been the last time I ever heard from her. Guess what?

It wasn't.

A few years later I was in a major car accident. I don't mean I totaled my car and walked away. I mean full on collision with a tractor trailer travelling at 60 miles an hour plus. Needless to say I didn't walk away. I spent a fun filled six weeks in the hospital hearing that I may never walk again. But that's another story.

One of the unfortunate side effects of not being able to walk after major surgery is learning to use the facilities, all the while never leaving the hospital bed. After the first time I did this, I called the nursing assistant to come clean me up. Imagine the horror on her face, and reflected on mine, when I stared up into the face of my greatest high school nemesis, Alison the Cheerleading Queen.

I honestly don't know who had it worse. I had to endure the humiliation of having my butt wiped, and she had to endure the humiliation of wiping it.

In a cheesier story, this would have ended with Alison and I becoming great friends, bonding and learning about each other. But this is real life. I did however form a very close relationship with the nurse call button.

Ding! These sheets needs changing! Ding! My food is cold! Ding! I can't reach my water!

Alison couldn't do a thing but smile sweetly and do what I said. It was fabulous.

It's been years since I was released to home care and I haven't seen Alison since. I assume she's graduated from wiping butts to passing meds. Maybe not though. She always was kind of stupid.

Our high school reunion is coming up soon and I'm thinking of attending. It'll be worth enduring the company of those losers just to smile at her all night knowing she cleaned my ass.

It's decided.

She definitely had it worse.

And The Winner Is?

Image: http://image.torrent-invites.com/images/257Winner_is.jpg (http://image.torrent-invites.com/view.php?filename=257Winner_is.jpg)
What, who is a “winner” in life, ?

Is Bill Gates a winner? Harry Houdini? , The Wright Brothers?.....
Who decides your a winner ?
Mmmm… ok hold on.: Who decides your a winner?

Is it God? Does he decide and nominates winners and losers?
A group of successful people?
Do I have to buy something to become a winner?
What about my friends? They must be right? Hey...
But what if I find new friends and they think differently ?
Who decides if I am a winner or a looser... Mmmm… this is getting complicated.

Maybe I have to stop asking questions and face up to it, the only person who can decide if I am a winner or looser is me....

So, do I feel like a winner? Sometimes.... other times, I feel like weak, vulnerable .

So what do I do …. How do I decide if I am a winner or a looser

II decided to make a list of my successes/achievements in my life. I Started with my childhood. How I learned to read, swim, ride my brothers bike, right up to today, my first relationship ,first job, promotion etc....

Every time I experience a new achievement, I read through my whole list, and add my new success/achievement to my list.
I found this changed my way of thinking . Instead of looking at my successes/ achievements as individual events, I started to link them. So know I don’t just think “Great” I’ve achieved an individual successful moment” I think “Wow, Yahoo!!! I’m a winner” Have a look at my life experiences and achievements....

Back in August 2007, myself and a mate were still downloading torrents from public sites, mainly mininova.and stuff my mate tried downloading Spiderman 3 for his son, but of cause it was a fake, it turned out to be a porno. Not the worst thing in the world to get, but not good for the little chappie.

He was still moaning to me about it few days later and i had gotten fed up of hearing his jibber jabber. So i suggested we set up our own site and make sure we only put good torrents on, no more cams, telesyncs and password protected rubbish. To be honest I never thought we could manage it, but we are both coders and i had been running websites for a few years, so we gave it a go.

Within a month we had created avi-torrents and had a few torrents on ready to go.

The first year we mainly just uploaded torrents from public trackers and, although we had only a handful of members, we were happy with how things were going. The members seemed to keep coming back so we must have been doing something right.

By June 2008 we had started to upload our own torrents and had good staff and great members, but the site was a bit slow and had quite a few bugs, so we decided to rewrite the whole thing, get a bigger server and generally smarten things up a bit. This is where Movie-Torrentz was born...

Since then we have added to the staff and have our own crop of uploader teams. Still with the same ethos, Quality only torrents. And we hope to be here for many years to come.

And now from this great place we are building a nice member count thankyou ti for helping me continue my torrent road..
