Thread: Spotify - Adapted from FSF w/new info

This is an edited version of the FSF tutorial so you don't screw up the signup process. It's valid as of today (the 21st) and since things seem to be changing quickly with them I wanted to be able to point out the exact idea here.

Unfortunately, if you live in the U.S., Canada or Mexico, you’re on the blacklist for Spotify; as it’s not currently available in all locations - even if you opt for a premium account. But don’t let that stop you. First, you need to find an invite. Second, you need to sign up through a web proxy from a supported country.

Once again you can use any proxy that's not North American. Do NOT open your invite with your browser if you're in Canada/U.S./Mexico. What happens is it does a geoip check and FILLS in your country for you - there is no option to pick one. Whichever one it picks is the one you have to stick with and find the postal code for.

This proxy works fine as of today.

You will notice it will show that you are from FRANCE not UK if you use that proxy, which means do not use the UK postal code lookup tool if it thinks you're in France.

French postal codes are five digits long. Don't just make one up, in case Spotify checks them. Here are some from Wikipedia:

Or simply use this, just punch in any French city you know and copy the FIVE DIGIT code.

Now it will say you have successfully signed up and ask you to download the files. You can't d/l via proxy so simply download via your home connection:

After you install it just use it like an unbloated, free iTunes. Setup file itself is just over 1MB too! No bloat in this software.
