Thread: How to get a What.CD invite

Thanks for the heads up I have been a member for a few weeks now after passing my interview 1st time. I dont know if I just got lucky with the interviewer but for anyone else taking the test make sure that you are very polite and courteous to the person interviewing you (they dont get anything from it).

Now ive got in there I just have the struggle of keeping a good ratio , damn its hard there

Thanks a ton for this. I just got in on my first try. Really, just review everything in the guide and make sure you know how private trackers work. If you don't get in your first time, don't sweat. Go back, study what you didn't do so well on, and come back to it. Remember to be polite in the interview, think of it as if it were an interview for a job irl. Also, be completely honest. Don't be googling answers, as portions of the test are timed, and if you're taking too long to come up with an answer that you either know or you don't, they'll end the interview. There was one question that I didn't know and I straight up told the interviewer that. He was cool about it, and told me what the answer was. He wanted me to learn through the interview, not be copy/pasting things from Google.

Thanks for the handy info, airman. Add a dash of good luck, one could pass in the what.cd’s interview. But any suggestions on how to appear for the interview from India. Is it possible ?

I read in one of the posts in the forums, about banned countries that India is included in what.cd's hit list. Could somebody kindly opine whether logging in, too is banned from India. Also if a person tries to join their IRC channel from India, all hell breaks loose.

What.CD banned countries:
China, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Portugal, Saudi Arabia.

Maybe your whole country is banned, or they IP range-banned someone and you got caught in it.

Using this guide, I was able to pass the interview. Took two tries. I want to stress the note, that each interviewer is different. You may know the content perfectly, and get an interviewer who is a TRUE audiophile, and expects more than a newbie can muster. Don't be discouraged! Try again! You have three tries. Study where you failed, and your next attempt, likely with an easier interviewer, will be much better. Your biggest weakness will have been eliminated.

Make sure when you take the interview, dedicate 2 hours. Do nothing else. It may be timed, and it will be stressful. The interviewers use might scripts(?) that will throw an entire section of questions at you, at once. It'll be al lot to take in, and you don't want to enhance the stress. While you wait, or before hand, make notes sheets. Some interviewers might want you to know the exact bit-rate range for MP3 V0, V2, or even V9. Some might want to know the exact ranges of spectral analysis that the What Interview prep page shows you. Make notes of it!

And finally, the suggestion of actually ripping a CD is a good one. You'll really learn it that way. Know the difference between EAC(Windows), XLD(mac), and what a log, cue, m3u are for. Those questions may get technical, and enhanced knowledge will show real dedication.

For those who lives on banned countries to the irc, like myself, just grab an invite to TheBox.bz and become a PU there. Then you could go to the PU forum and there's a Thread with unlimited What.cd invites. Nothing easier.

All you have to do to become PU or above is:

Power User Must have been be a member for at least 4 weeks (28 days), have uploaded at least 25GB and have a ratio at or above 1.05. The promotion is automatic when these conditions are met. One invitation is given upon promotion to Power User.

The Higher class forums from DVDclub provide What.cd invites as well. All have to ask.

btw, one other easy way to join What.cd if your country is ban (because u still can sign up with invite, its legal and not a wrong thing)
go to TheBox.bz or ThePlace.bz (PM me for invite if u want) , and become Power User there. In the forum we have minicab which will give unlimited What.cd invite to Power User.
