    Joining the Queue

Once you are comfortable with the material covered in "Prepare for the Interview," it is time to interview. #what.cd-invites operates effectively and efficiently by using a bot to manage the queue of interviewees.
    To join the queue:

    There you go.
    And goodluck. ;]

Even easier way... get to pu in ptp (not very hard) they have unlimited invites to what.cd, (as well as some other great invites like bitme, waffles, pin & scl) no interview required. =)

The easiest way to get an invite to what is to become a power user at a tracker whose power user forum section has what invites.

I have not read through this entire thread, just the first page. BUT, I wanted to give a little bit of input on the What.cd? IRC interview. The OP lays it out pretty nicely, it's pretty much verbatim from their study guide. The only thing that I really would add is that you definitely need to know the difference between Lossy and Lossless codecs. That is the basepoint of the entire interview, and if you don't understand that, it would be very difficult to pass. Also, you should know about spectrum analysis [what it is, and how it can be used]... I was asked several of those questions in my interview.

But anyway, What.cd? isn't as difficult to get into as a lot of people say. Someone said that they had to get every question right, and I don't think that is completely true. Perhaps if you miss one of the beginning questions, they will ask you to study more and try in 48 hours. But, bottom line, make it like a real interview, be courteous to the interview, but don't be so tense that it seems like you are nervous about taking it. You have 3 tries, and you're bound to pass one of them. Hopefully this helps somewhat, and makes some sense...

It's not just file types though. You need to know transcoding and codecs, lossy vs. lossless, VBR vs CBR, spectrum analysis... And you have very limited time for each question, or they will boot you because they think you are googling the answers.

Yay, Thanks alot for this tutorial. I passed my interview. I can tell you, its not that hard. I failed my first interview, the second time i was fully prepared. Just be honest and answer the questions fast, don't take a lot of time answering each question.

Good luck to those who are preparing for the interview.

I must say that I am happy to report that I am a member as well !! Was my third interview, which was shorter than the first two. Those interviews consisted of 4 sections, each with another topic (1st was general to get the n00bs out asap, the 2nd & 3rd about audio formats/encoding/transcoding, and the 4th one about torrenting.) It's not too hard to pass, but you will have to learn about audio a bit, these people are real enthusiasts. My interviewer was nice (but I had to wait for about 1,5 hours before I could start the interview (which lasted 30 to 45 minutes)).

Thanks Airman for the guide, great effort!! (But to everyone who is planning on going through the interview process, take Airman's text as a starting point in your preparation, there is more to learn.) Oh by the way, the interview was different 3 times, so keep in mind that you really have to understand the concepts to pass. Good luck people !!

    Kind regards,

    Lalaland

Just want to add that if you're a PU+ at Waffles or some other music tracker, mention that! The interviewer might skip the transcoding questions ;).
