I'll try out HIDE IP.
I would also recommend encrpting your HDD.
Might do a tutorial on that soon.

Does encrypting your traffic help? I know with Transmission, you can either prefer encrypted peers or restrict all traffic so that only encrypted peers are connected to.
Thanks for the rest of the info!
Great write up! My only question is will peer guardian really help at all. On a private tracker forum I'm on, there was alot of discussion about pg2 actually blocking alot of valid ip's limiting your dl/ul speeds. The thread about pg2 was written by a mod and had several substantially ranked users in agreement.
This article alone is worth joining the site for alone, Ive searched for trusted guides to such things before but always found the advice circumspect. Much appreciated !!
Your time, advice and experience much appreciated

To add further....
Consider using blocklist manager (blm 2.7.7) to grab and process lists for use by peerguardian and uTorrent at the same time.
1) Using peerguardian and torrent client ipFilter gives two levels of scutiny and protection.
2) Using blm gives the added flexibility to use even more lists than what pheonix labs provide.
3) Prevention is better than cure.
Saying thanks annoyingly clutters up threads - Rep this post instead ;)

Thanks great info. peerguardian is a great program.
but does anyone know how to install peerguardian 2 on a x64-bit vista computer. I used the cmd command that is on their page but It's not working it keeps getting an error about a driver.
this is definitely a good guide
i actually have the same question as the above commenter elpadre17
i tried installing pg2 on win7 x64bit but i can't seem to get the permissions to work
Try logging in as the hidden administrator and installing it through there. Windows 7 is still beta, so you can't expect it to work with PG2, seeing as it only just started supporting Vista 32bit... =)
Vista x64 is very compatible with 32bit binaries, so I don't see why PG2 doesn't work on it.
