Because I often use my phone instead of my computer, I have tried to figure out how to manage my torrent activities using only the phone. Recently I figured out how to add new torrent files from any site to an instance of uTorrent running on a remote computer. This tutorial is also meant to be a discussion. If you know of an easier way to do this, or you have any related tips, please share.

What you need:
  1. iPhone with Dropbox app installed (available in app store)
  2. Dropbox account
  3. Computer/seedbox running uTorrent. This tutorial will show how to make this work using uTorrent remote, but you can also use other similar web interfaces.

First set up uTorrent remote as described here: µTorrent | How to set up uTorrent Remote

Then open safari on the iPhone and browse to the link for the torrent file you want to download. Now click the download link:

That will bring you to the download window. Choose Open in "Dropbox."

Put the file in your public Dropbox folder so you can easily access it later.

After selecting the public folder (you can also create a subfolder in here if you like), choose Upload.

The torrent file is has been uploaded. Now choose the Dropbox option at the bottom of the screen.

This is how you can view/access your files. Again choose the Public folder.

And choose the torrent file you just uploaded.

You can't view the file of course, but click on the chain image at the bottom left to access the link to the file.

Then choose Copy Link to Clipboard.

Now you have the link on your clipboard. Open up safari and enter remote.utorrent.com in the address bar. Log in to utorrent remote using the credentials that you used to set it up.

Now choose the "+" button to add a new torrent.

Press your finger in the text box and choose paste to put the link in the box. Then choose Add.

And you're done. uTorrent will start processing the file.

And that's it. Part of my reason for posting this is I do this quite a bit, and I want to know if anyone else has figured out an easier way (or perhaps has similar tips). So please post if you have any advice. I also think there are more things that we can do directly on the iPhone (unpack/rename/move files for playback on PC, get video files onto phone for playback, etc), so if you are interested in anything like that, let me know and I'll fiddle some more then post more tips.
