Default [How to] Download by IDM / From Seedbox to PC

    Hi guys

When I searched here in the tutorials, I found it that it's missing this kind of tutorial. So I decided to come up with a Simple Tutorial.

    Intro.

Some people like to download files throgh using Internet Dowanload Manager (IDM) because of, it is very excellent app by download files at a miximum SPEED of connection.

    Req.

IDM & Smartftp. (Actually, I used more than one ftp and all of it does not work exept Smartftp. So I recommend it)

    HOW TO:

    1. Select the file that you want to download, then copy the URL. (IDM does not support the folder)

    2.Paste the URL in IDM.

    3. And there you go :) it will start.

    4. If you want multi download, then you should select all the files that you want, and then copy URL and paste it in a Notepad, after that go to IDM and import it as a text, That's it !. And there you go :).

    END OF THE TUTORIAL

I hope it will help somebody ;)

    Regards ;)

Well this was a bit helpful. I hated smartftp though, the design made me gag. However unlike what the OP says, this is possible to do with other ftp programs as well, such as Filezilla which is what I use. The thing is, when you copy the URL in smartftp they fill in your ftp username and password by default, and filezilla doesn't seem to do that as far as I know. However, you can specifiy within IDM's download options certain sites that will automatically fill in your username and password(Downloads -> Options -> Sites Logins), so whenever a download is coming from your seedbox URL, IDM will fill it in.

Furthermore I also have it setup where anytime a download url is copied to my clipboard, it automatically opens in IDM making the whole thing much more automated.

I was having horrible speeds with FTP downloads with Filezilla. I've only tried two seedboxes so far, this time being seed.st, and ftp was an incredible frustration. I was only getting around 1/5 of my max download speed. With IDM, I get max download speeds instantly.

I looked around quickly for a better tutorial for IDM but didn't find one. If anyone wants a better tutorial let me know and I might write one up.

IDM is using a ftp connection as well to download the data. Your slow download speed is not coming from using the ftp protocoll, but not using multiple connections (segmented download). This is what IDM is doing by itself. It splits the file you are downloading and downloads multiple parts at the same time. Hence the increased download speed. Instead of awkwardly copying the download link, you should set up smartftp to do exactly this, segmented downloading. It's a bit late, so I make it short:

    1) start your download in smartftp
    2) in the transfer queue window (bottom) set the workers to 10
    3) right-click your download in the transfer queue window and choose properties
    4) go to advanced
    5) set Multi Part Transfers to enable

You might have to experiment with the settings of workers in the transfer queue window and the number of workers/part in the properties window. If you want to know more i can make some screenshots tomorrow.

Sanoru, what you're saying is right in a way but I used Smartftp as well for a while and although I saw a great increase in speed it was nowhere near my full speed. I also suggest using Filezilla to get the URLs to your files as you don't have to install it on your system. IDM allows you to split the download by 16 times whilst SmartFTP only lets you split it by 8. I recommend using the tutorial above as I ALWAYS get my full speed :D
