Default Quick and Basic Utorrent Setup Guide for Newbies

This my basic guide for newcomers to Utorrent and how to set it up simply.

    1. This is the main screen of Utorrent in Windows press Ctrl+P to get to the options

    2. Options Page you can pretty much leave this at default settings just make sure Start utorrent when windows starts is ticked and if you want tick start minimised.

    3. UI settings this gets rid of the annoying popup every time you add a torrent (rememeber to setup the directories)

    4. Directories this is my personal setup as you can see my torrents are downloaded to d:\utorrent and the data files are stored in e:\torrents. (Your drives will be different)

5.Queueing The final setting you need to change set minimun ratio to 101 this will ensure that you automaticaly seed to 100%

Next lets sort out your connection

    Press Ctrl+G

Simply Press run tests and utorrent will make all the changes it needs to for your connection. You may need to set up your router for port forwarding if so make randomise port each start is not ticked in the connection settings(press Ctrl+P)

With all this done you should not get anymore prompts about where to save to when starting a new torrent you should have 2 way traffic and you will always seed a t least what you take. Please remember this is a basic guide for new users only.

Thank your for the tutorial. There are a few others on the forum as well, such as this one.

One thing that is really important for private trackers is that you *MUST* have DHT, local peer discovery and peer exchange disabled. If you don't it may appear to your tracker that you are cheating. Make sure that these settings are unchecked as in the picture below.
