Thread: PS3 root key

Greetings forum

Geohot (resident PS3 cracker) has posted the PS3 root key, which means you can access the ps3 unhindered by any security. This also means it is possible to run hacked up code on the ps3 (this means pirated games), and while geohot says "he doesn't condone piracy" that is what is going to happen.

so assuming it is the correct rootkey and it can be applied to games as the article describes then are we likely to see ps3 releases with the rootkey already embedded? If this works the way that article claims it does then this is pretty massive, shame I dont have the know how to embed that rootkey into games.

i think also it needs good know how of the PS3 Code
for rootkey injection.

but i feel it the will come ;-)

People are already making custom firmware, like on the PSP, which will allow you to run homebrew without troubles - no jailbreak or other "magic" ways needed.

I think maybe the significance of this is being missed here. With the metldr Root Key, you will not need to make any firmware modifications, for any software that needs to interact with the machine.

If there are no firmware modifications, there is NO WAY they can distinguish a modded box and or a pirated game.

If this is indeed the Root Key, then it's "Doors Wide Open" time for the PS3 Pirateers..
