Thread: Torrent-Damage compensates for downtime!

Now that I have your attention, I am happy to announce that we are going to have a Ratio Building event starting on the 21st July 2010 at 22:00 UTC and ending on the 31st July at 22:00

GADZOOKS!! 300%!!

The way this works is, whatever you download, only counts 50% towards your download statistics, and whatever you upload counts 150% towards your upload statistics. This gives you an effective 300% ratio boost!

Example: You really download 100,000,000 bytes and upload 100,000,000 bytes. Torrent-Damage will record a download of 50,000,000 bytes and record an upload of 150,000,000 bytes, giving you an effective 3:1 ratio instead of a 1:1

P.S. - if you're still seeding some of the Freeleech items you'll get extra seeding bonus from that too!

This ratio event is to say SORRY for the incredibly lengthy downtime we recently had.



How did this all happen? Well it's a long story, but it went something like this:

# The datacenter had to move our server from our old rack to a new rack

# The NIC became more faulty during the move and made the server's communications unstable

# The hardware manufacturer came out to replace the NIC, but then advised us the actual motherboard is faulty

# With no spare motherboards, the manufacturer gave us a replacement server



# The replacement server had only SATA whereas our old hard drive is PATA

# We had to get a USB removable HDD cradle out to the datacenter to connect up the old hard drive to the new server

# Had to reinstall FreeBSD 64 bit and all the required sofwtare, Apache, PHP and MySQL. Compiling always takes a logn time regardless of how fast your server is.


We do learn from our mistakes however

To prevent such a big outage again, we'll be ordering a new server, which will have more reliability in comparison to the current one. Obviously servers don't come free and we estimate the costs around € 2000,-.
