    µTorrent 2.0 Banned

µTorrent 2.0! Finally a new version of the (tiny) Bittorrent Client! Alas, quite a few trackers - including BitMe and BitMeTV - have banned the latest incarnation of the most popular client, used by more users than any other client. Private tracker admins claim that µTorrent 2.0 has an unfair bias, favoring connections with other µTorrent 2.0 peers over other clients. Some may recall that BitComet was banned for much the same behavior. While BitComet's preferential treatment was intentional, µTorrent 2.0 is a victim of its own innovation.

    µTorrent 2.0 Banned

µTorrent 2.0! Finally, a new version of the (tiny) Bittorrent Client!

Bittorrent is despised by most ISPs. Torrenting has been said to make up more than 50% of all Internet traffic. In an effort to lessen the burden on ISPs, µTorrent 2.0 now supports an open protocol, Low Extra Delay Background Transport, more commonly known as µTP (micro Transport Protocol). All technical jargon aside, µTP is designed to reduce network demand. Ever pause µTorrent because you wanted to watch something on YouTube? µTorrent 2.0 should fix that; µTP "is designed to slow ... down when the network is overloaded (when sending and receiving would only make things worse!) – the result is a win-win of faster downloads for users with lower network impact for both users and ISPs."

The number of outbound connections a client can make is limited by the maximum number of half-open TCP connections. µTP is not subject to this limitation, allowing it to make more connections. Since µTP allows µTorrent 2.0 to make more connections to other µTorrent 2.0 clients, a bias forms.

Although µTP is an open protocol, only one client has fully implemented it - µTorrent 2.0. Some trackers see this as an unfair advantage. But should µTorrent 2.0 be punished for its innovation? µTP is designed to allow µTorrent to be much more net-friendly. µTorrent 2.0's bias occurs only as long as it is the only client supporting µTP. Instead of supporting the status quo, we and our trackers should encourage other clients to adopt this or a similar protocol. Better network management results in less throttling, and that's a good thing in anyone's book.

    untrue
µTorrent 2.0 has NOT been whitelisted by BitMeTV, and is being evaluated at this time. An announcement will be posted here when a decision has been made. Updating to 2.0 will result in a banned client message, so you may want to wait for the announcement rather than updating now. Please be assured that whatever decision is made, it will be carefully considered and will be made in the best interest of the community and all of its members.

Would you mind telling me what the point of that comment was, iNet? What, exactly is untrue?

Edit: And AT THE MOMENT the client is banned at both of those trackers- hence the banned client message.

Please read the entire article next time before making comments like that.

"quite a few trackers have banned the latest incarnation of the most popular client" they "banned" it because they don't want it to be used YET. the decision is yet to be made so it doesn't matter that it is banned right now they're merely testing it. the rest of the article ist just blah so i'm not gonna say anything about that since most of it doesn't connect to the banning of µtorrent 2.0. no tracker that matters to me banned it except for bitme and bmtv which is, again, for testing purposes and by using the term "ban" the writer makes it seem like something final which is not the case at all.

plus bitme and bmtv didnt even use the term banned since its so final. they said when you use it you get the message that its banned but they did not officially ban it.

//by the way, no need to be rude at all. i did read the whole article and i'm right with what i said. sorry for displaying my opinion i guess

well some of the things here dont add up the thing is that utorrent 2.0 is only banned on cartoonchaos and not on any other tracker.
bitmetv, bitme,BCG and ACID are in stage of testing the client so dot say it is banned on these trackers until it is officially announced by their staf.

What and Waffles are banning Vuze and Deluge, BitMe and BitMeTV are delaying white-listing µTorrent 2.0 and it seems like they are seriously considering banning it for iindeterminate amount of time. Nice, soon we'll need several clients in case we are members of more trackers.

Now, while I can understand reasons behind banning Vuze from What and Waffles (though not necessarily agreeing with it) I can't see no point in procrastinating white-listing of µTorrent 2.0 because of it's improvements and I absolutely agree with notion that other clients should adopt µTP or similar protocol instead of banning new µTorrent.

Well, actually i was a little bit afraid of this, that's why i have stayed with utorrent 1.8 version. It will come the time when the 2.0 will be allowed everywhere !

I believe so too. Trackers would be foolish not to use the new 2.0 version, utorrent is probably the most common bittorrent client out there!. Im sure the majority of trackers are in testing stages right now so eventually it will be compatible with with all trackers, lets at least hope so anyway.

Why would anybody try and block something that is suppose to prevent the need for throttling torrents?
