According to the BBC, more than seven million people in Britain are illegally downloading copyrighted materials. Knowing these numbers, the illegal downloaders cannot be just students. Many of them do not know what they are doing might be illegal, many others simply don't care. And this is the reason that fully one half of the Internet traffic in the UK is down to infringing transfers of copyrighted works (music, video, software, games, books, photos).

According to PC Pro, the same study, commissioned by the SABIP - ( Strategic Advisory Board for Intellectual Property ) for submission to MPs concerned with copyright issues, claims that this illegal work costs UK economy£12 billion pounds a year.

Intellectual Property Minister David Lammy praised the report, echoing its dire claims about the illegal downloads which affect the economy. He tells: "This is not an issue confined by national boundaries and I am sure
    that other
[EU] member states and their copyright industries will find this report of use in the development of policy."

Such claims, are not new and we have two hypothetical situations:
    (a) it's impossible to say that
all £12 billion of those pounds would have been spent on the legitimate purchase of the copyrighted material in question had the "illegal option" not been available and (b) whatever the case, those £12 billion pounds would have not been spent anywhere, so it would represent no loss for the economy.

Still, given that the UK prison system can currently hold only about 80,000 inmates, it would be impractical to incarcerate the seven million or so people
who are, knowingly or unknowingly, committing copyright infringement. Even if none of these infringers was ever sent to prison, the report
concludes that, "if all who undertake unauthorised downloading, uploading and sharing were prosecuted, up to seven million Britons would have a criminal record."

If all people pay for everything, the CD or DVD companies will be the most rich people in the world. Also, if someone brought the Original DVD or CD, He or she must have the right to use it as he or she want. That`s my Opinion, dunno what is the opinion of others on this.Anyway, as i heard P2P File transfer is illegal in some other countries. If someone download something via P2P, the ISP can sue against them.Fortunately, there are no such rules in my country. So, i download 24/7 using P2P.And seeding much as i can.Haha, this is a Great thread about the Real status of P2P.Thanks for post this thread.Good job!!.....

They already tried to crack down hard in the States once with people with large amounts of illegally downloaded music on there computer. They arrested like 7,000ish people or something like that. One of the people arrested was like a 12 year old girl and it caused such an uproar they haven't cracked down again in quite a while. There were actually talk radio hosts offering to pay her legal fees. Since then I haven't heard a thing.
